Anyways, my story.
My name is Sydney. Sydney Grace. My actual name is Sydney Leanne Jameson. But my record company thinks Sydney Grace sounds better. I'm not sure why it matters but what do I know. I'm just the clay in their hands.
I'm 19 years old and when I was a junior in high school, I started writings songs. I've always played piano and guitar, and sang. People used to tell me when I was growing up I'd become a super star. I'd never thought that it was even remotely possible. But here I am, sitting in my managers office.
I grew up in a small little town in the hills of Georgia. Yes, I'm as southern as the day is long. Anyways, when I finished my junior year of high school, I wrote and performed my very own song. And to my luck, I was signed to an amazing record company just 3 months later. Now, my second album reached number one the first week of it coming out.
Yeah. That's pretty darn amazing.
But I don't like to gloat. I've worked pretty hard to get to where I am now and it's definitely been a long ride. I went from a teenage girl writing songs in her bedroom to a singer/songwriter in L.A. in the time span of 2 years.
What a great story right?
I mean small town girl to pop star basically over night.
Yeah.
You'd think it was all glamour and fame.
Well it's not.
And I know what you're thinking.
"Sydney, you're so lucky. You have it all. Fame and money. What could be so bad about that?"
Well let me enlighten you.
I might have my own thoughts, body, and opinion. But in the music industry, I don't own any of it.
Everything about me is not mine.
My name, belongs to the record company.
My 'songs', sometimes aren't even mine.
They take what talent you have and make you into a totally different person.
But I'm just supposed to smile and wave.
Everything is perfect on the outside looking in.
