17. Mistakes (Angst with a happy ending)

Keith was professionally putting a dish together while the other cooks is in the kitchen making up other dishes for different tables. He groans in frustration as his plates of art is dropped on the floor by a waitress. "I'm sorry chef!" The waitress pleads and Keith just shakes his head, "It's fine." He smiles to reassure her, "I need another lobster for table 12." Keith says while turning back around to work on another plate.

The phones rings and Keith groans, "Someone pick up the phone it's distracting." Keith's best friend Shiro nods, although Keith can't see it. "This is the kitchen." Shiro says in reply to the other person on the other side of the phone. Shiro freezes then sets the phone down on the counter. "Keith... It's for you." Shiro says and Keith grumbles, "Tell them to leave a message. I'm busy." Keith says but Shiro taps him on the shoulder, "You really need to take this call..." Shiro gives him a sad look. Keith looks at him with confusion, "This is Kogane." Keith says while watching the kitchen, "This is Doctor Anderson, I'm afraid your sister Elizabeth and her children got into a horrible car accident." Keith freezes and just listens to the horrible news.

He drops the phone as soon as the doctor hung up. Shiro already informed the owner of the restaurant that Keith would be needing time off for awhile. "I gotta go..." Keith runs out of the restaurant after changing back into normal clothes and catches a cab to the hospital.

"I didn't want to tell you anything more over the phone." Keith looks into the room to see the three children sleeping. "I'm afraid, Elizabeth passed away..." Keith's world goes frozen as the oldest wakens. "Do they have a father that we could contact?" Keith shakes his head, "No, Lotor was never there for the oldest, and the other two children's father died while on the job." Keith has tears going down his cheeks. "I'm sorry Mr. Kogane..." The doctor pats his back and Keith looks into the window to see the oldest looking around is surroundings. Keith opens the door and the oldest panics at the sight of Keith's tears. "Where's mom?" Keith's heart breaks even more than it is, "I'm sorry buddy... She's gone..." The oldest starts crying and Keith brings him into a soft hug.

"Felix, I'm so sorry..." Keith lets him cry into his chest.

The two other children Sheila and Aiden were still unconscious because they lost more blood than the oldest. Keith was worried, he kept holding the oldest until they both woke up. The next morning he woke up with Felix in his arms and two other children awake. "Uncle Keith?" Aiden looked at him with scared eyes, Keith carefully put Felix on the bed then walked over to the 10 year old. "Hey..." Keith sits on the side of his bed.

After a few days of the kids in the hospital, Elizabeth's lawyer contacted Keith, giving him a letter.

"Hey Keith,

If you're reading this then something must of happened to me. There's only three things that matter to me. My children. We don't have any family Keith, and I don't want my children go into the foster system like we did. I'm trusting you to look after my children. I love you Keith, and don't worry. You'll be a great guardian of my children. All I ask for you to love them, care for them, and put your fantastic food onto their plates...

My house goes to you, I do not care what you do with it, sell it, move in. I don't care. It was merely a resting stop for me. I was planning to move even closer to you, but things had come up.

Thank you Keith, you are the best big brother ever. I couldn't ask for anyone else to be big brother.

If Lotor ever finds my son, please fight for him. Fight for Felix. Make sure Felix doesn't go to him. Knowing him, he'll be back...

I love you Keith, if something happened to me, I know I you would be needing this.
