It was late at night and I was restless. It was the night before The Draft. It was a day where the children would graduate high school and leave their homes to go to war. Usually it was only for men, but not anymore. They changed the rules a few years ago.

The only acceptation is if you already were or were chosen to be a mother. Sadly no one I knew was going to be safe. The choosing ceremony was still when we were all juniors in highschool.

Now how the mothers got pregnant was all science. Nothing involving... You know...

Anyways... I remember sitting down with all the rest of my friends and strangers that were all my age praying to be chosen. "Welcome ladies to the mother choosing!" There was a pause before the elderly woman continued, "Now I am going to pick five names out of this bowl and whose ever names I pull out will not be drafted and will have a child."

It was silent... No one spoke. No one whispered. No one moved. All of our eyes were locked onto the woman on the stage.

The lady began to speak again, "Let's see..." She stuck her wrinkly and veiny hand into the bowl and pulled out the five names of the oh-so-lucky girls. "Camrie, Trish, Phoebe, Isabel, and Quinn you are the new mothers! Congratulations you're safe from the draft!" I clapped even though I was on the verge of tears.

I remember heading home after the choosing and looking at my mom shaking my head when she asked if I was picked. It was a night of crying myself to sleep and wishing that we lived in the world we used to live in five years ago. I was only thirteen... Still happy. Still carefree. This was all before the war.

I snapped back into reality for a while and then fell asleep quickly.

Tomorrow was it. I was going to The Draft. Goodbye Oklahoma and hello World War III.
