Walking with a friend in the dark,
Is better than walking alone in the light.

=Chapter 2=
“Come on Alex!” Charlotte grabbed my arm again and hurled me through the cafeteria doors, I'm pretty sure that if I checked my arm at the end of today I would have the girls hand printed onto my skin in some way.
I glanced around cautiously at the over crowed room “there isn’t exactly a lot of room” I muttered under my breath but I could tell that Charlotte had heard me she didn’t appear to miss anything.
“Oh don't worry we sit outside, much nicer” I sighed there better be shade at least, the temperature today had just gotten hotter and hotter it was horrible. Walking next to Charlotte we joined the end of the cue to wait for food
“Hello ladies” I nearly jumped a foot in the air from shock when Chris waltzed up behind us and threw his arms around mine and Charlotte’s shoulders, feeling slightly uncomfortable I shrugged his arm from me and took a small tentative step back. Chris didn’t seem to notice what I had done and just started talking happily to Charlotte, breathing out I turned slightly and looked out at all the people sitting down eating their food and joking around.
I could clearly see from a glance who the popular people were, they all seemed to have a sort of glow of power that radiated from them. I glanced at their faces and you could see why they were popular, they were all beautiful, they didn’t seem to have a single flaw about them. Which to be honest annoyed the heck out of me.
Suddenly my eyes stopped scanning when I caught sight of one guy in particular. He had stunning forest green eyes and glowing tanned skin, with a strong jaw line, while his golden brown hair was styled tidily on his head. I had never seen another guy quiet like him, just looking at him almost made my heart falter – which was just ridiculous.
“Who’s the lucky guy to have caught your eye Alex” I tore my eyes away and whirled around to face Charlotte with blazing cheeks.
“No one” I shrugged nonchalantly trying to act casual like I had never been staring at that guy in the first place.
“Uh huh sure you weren’t” I ignored her comment; I was too embarrassed at having been caught to even want to reply. I noticed then that we were close enough at the front of the line to grab food, so I did just that. Without really paying any attention I just grasped a sandwich in plastic casing and went forward to pay for it.
Waiting for the other two, I gaped at Charlotte she was piling food onto her tray and not salads; I mean things like chips and muffins. Surely she couldn’t eat all of that I mean sure she was tall – taller than me but she was a slim as a stick there just wasn’t room!
I shook my head a smiled slightly as Charlotte and Chris walked up to me with their heavy looking trays. Together the three of us walked out of the noisy cafeteria and into the scorching heat outside, the grass underfoot was slowly turning brown and quietly crunched under foot as we made our way over towards a table that sat underneath a larger tree providing some shelter from the burning sun.
As we got closer I was able to make out a figure hunched over at the table poring over what looked like a book with untouched food pushed to the centre of the table.
“Hey Annie” Charlotte skipped over and placed the tray opposite her before sitting down and patting the bench beside her while looking at me. Chris and I paced over and took our places – his being beside his quiet girlfriend obviously and me being next to Charlotte.
Annie still hadn’t looked up from her book it almost looked like she didn’t even know that we had joined her.
“So how’s your fist day been going?” Charlottes cheery voice asked beside me while digging into her chips she had bought.
