After the party had ended with everyone gone and the house cleaned.
We all retired for the night.
Turning restlessly in bed I couldn't sleep.
Sighing I sat up, adjusting my eyes to the darkness.
Just when I moved to lay down, I heard a loud bang and the whines of horses.
Shocked I quickly grabbed a candle light.
Using the light from the candle I curiously dashed downstairs.
The smell of smoke and cries of people welcomed me the moment I stepped outside.
"Jessica!"
My Father's loud voice pulled me out of my daze.
Just then a high pitched scream of a girl was heard, recognizing the voice as Stacy's I took a step forward, but was held back by my Father's pull on my wrist.
Dragging me back to the house my, father looked down at me.
"Jessica listen to me, I want you to go upstairs to your mother.."
"Father what's going on?"
"Jessica please listen to me.!,are you listening?"
I nodded.
"Go upstairs to your mother and tell her that they are here. OK?" I nodded.
"Now go, go! hurry!"
Alarmed I quickly jumped the stairs as fast as my little legs could go.
"Mommy!, Mommy!"
I called out,as I ran into the room.
"Mommy wake up!, I said pulling the covers from her.
" Honey what's wrong,? "
"They're here"
Her eyes widened the moment the words came out of my mouth.
Scrambling out of the bed, my mother grabbed my wrist pulling me along with her out of the room to the front door of the house.
Crunching down, she held both my arms as she whispered something I couldn't make out.
The banging on the door made me jump in fright.
"Stay here my mother said pushing me behind the door" don't come out until I tell you to"
Nodding I closed my eyes the moment she closed the door with a click.
I don't know how long it took, because I fell asleep crouched down with my head on my knees.
The sound of the door opening made me look up.
Smiling my mother crouched down to me then kissed my hair.
Pulling me to her she wrapped her arms around me."Mommy are they gone?"
"Yes honey they are gone", she said pulling back." it's alright, we're safe now.
.......................................................................
{TWO YEARS LATER}"OK Michael you can stop teasing her now.
" it's alright Mommy I don't mind" I said trying to reach for Father's hand holding up a tiny wrapped pink box above my head.
Chuckling my mother shut the window as she took a candle light upstairs.
"So how was school today?"
"OK"
"Anything new?"
"Same old, same old." I said busy with untying the knots on the box.
I gasped as I opened the tiny box, turning I squeezed my father in a hug.
Kissing my head and patting my back he sent me up to my room, where I carefully opened the wardrobe then placed the box inside it.
Turning out the candle light, I jumped into bed , wrapping the covers around me I turned falling quickly asleep.
