Maya Winter
It's been two weeks since he told me about his musical secret, and I'm still in awe. It is nice to have someone who relates to the type of music I listen to. It is also a bit strange, having a guy talk to me about how Kellin Quinn is such an awesome singer.
The bell rings for lunch. I stand up an rush out of the room. The entire time I was waiting anxiously to be released from this awfully boring teacher's grasp.
Having seventh period lunch isn't the most satisfying thing ever. I guess it's better to be able to think, "Okay, after this I have just one more period," instead of "Damn it, I have the entire rest of the day after this."
The lunch room seems louder than usual, if that's even possible. Making my way over to my table, I try to block out the loud noises of people cackling with laughter and yelling at each other.
I am filled with disappointment as I see Hannah isn't sitting at our table, (or my table now, I guess) but at Riley's table. They sit there giggling, probably about something stupid. My two ex best friends. It sounds a bit funny.
I shoot Hannah a glare. She returns it. Her eyes speak obvious words. "I don't need you anymore, Maya. No one does." I guess that includes Riley, the light brown haired "skater" girl wearing a pound of eyeliner, standing one peg underneath Tyler and Cierra's crew on the ladder of popularity.
I see her and Hannah were keen to push me off; I guess I'm on the ground now.
I sit down at the now empty table, putting my head down on the cold surface. Suddenly, I feel someone's breath on my back. "Hello, Sunshine," I hear a familiar voice whisper in my ear.
I squeal, wheeling around to see Tyler's amused face. "Ty! That was not funny! I almost had a heart attack!" I feel my cheeks go bright red.
He shrugs, still smirking. "Anyways, what are you doing sitting alone?" he asks. I frown, pointing at Hannah and Riley. "Ask them."
He leans in closer. "Someone can't take a hint." I look at him expectantly.
"I mean, do you want to come sit with us?"
I stare at him in awe. Then at the table where all of the popular kids sit. "You want me...to-" "Yup." He pops the "p" childishly. I don't think I could say no to that.
"Ok then, if you really want that...but I'm awkward around people like you." "I don't think so. I think they'll really like you."
Shrugging, I stand up. "Come, your majesty," he announces in a ridiculously posh British accent, locking his arm with mine and walking with a sophisticated posture and look on his face.
I giggle at how much of a goofball he is. As I'm walking in the same "I'm better than you, peasants" manner as him, I smirk at Hannah and Riley who are gawking at me. I wink at them.
Never have I felt I've surpassed someone who doesn't deserve to have the upper hand like this. It feels nice.
When I reach the table, I am greeted in a way that I would never have conceived. A giant bear hug knocks me not only almost onto the ground, but into confusion. When the person finally pulls away, I find myself looking directly into the glistening green-blue eyes of Cierra West.
"Hi, Maya! Wow! Tyler has told me about you, but I don't think I could have imagined you being this pretty! I couldn't wait to meet you, you sounded so cool! I love your hair by the way, I could never get mine to grow out that long!"
Whoa...
I manage to choke out a quiet "hi". "Aw, she's shy! Don't worry, we can fix that!" she exclaims with more cheer than a Christmas elf could ever possibly have...if they existed.
"Here, sit next to me!" she says happily, pulling out a chair. Wow, I never would have pictured her being like this. She has one of those perfect voices, that would sound amazing no matter what she said. Plus, she's ridiculously beautiful and so nice.
"Hey! Maya, was it?" Hunter asks me. I nod, trying to smile normally and not embarrass myself by saying something stupid. "Welcome, my queen! Would you ever be able to respect low class filth like us?" Cody spoke in the same British accent, bowing his head. I guess that's their little joke.
"Oh don't worry. I'm sure I could come to accept you some day," I respond jokingly.
"Wow, you're really good at that accent, I'm so horrible at it!" Cierra giggles.
Could this really be where I belong? With these kids?
