I took a shaky breath as I stood in front of the class, about to give them my speech. I focused on one person in the whole room, my best friend, Olivia. She gave me a reassuring nod and I began to speak.
"Olivia and I are best friends." all eyes turned to Olivia, except for hers. "And we've been through a lot together. Our biggest adventure started at the beginning of the school year."
1st day of school:
Olivia handed me a friendship bracelet.
"Thanks," I said.
Olivia smiled, "We're friends aren't we?"
I nodded while looking down at my left wrist. Just as we were passing by a row of lockers someone bumped into me. "Woah!" I looked down to see a stranger girl. She got up and brushed off her yellow dress. Her auburn hair was braided into one.
The stranger coughed, "I'm really sorry about that, its my first day here. I'm Macy by the way."
"Its fine, I'm Sara," I smiled at Macy.
Olivia introduced herself and we walked her to class, which, surprisingly was the same class we had. Except something was off about her, Macy, she seemed to always stare at my bracelet...
During second break in the cafeteria I was just entering. I searched for Olivia in the big crowd. Then I saw her red hair and rushed over. But someone rushed into me: Macy. Except she didn't just happen to bump into me again, she actually pushed me into a wall. During the process she pulled apart my bracelet and it fell off my wrist. My back made contact to the wall before my head, thankfully. Olivia was the first to come to my aid. Before a crowd could form, Macy apologized with "I'm so so so so so sorry!" Then she tried to bend down to help me. And on the ground my friendship bracelet was nowhere to be seen. I pushed through the crowd with Olivia behind me. I crawled past the few people around me and searched frantically for my bracelet. Except I couldn't find it. Then a teacher came to me and asked about my condition. I told her I was fine and stomped to Olivia's place in the cafeteria. I set my lunch bag down on the table and fumed silently. Olivia tried to ask me for answers but I didn't know what to say. I was afraid that if I told her what Macy did, Olivia would deny it and say it was an accident. But I know it wasn't an accident. Except, would Olivia believe me? Maybe, maybe not. Or maybe some people did believe that Macy pushed me rather than ran into me. Because as the days passed she seemed more lonely. Finally Olivia took her under her wing and from then on the two hung out. And they left me out...
As the days passed I was the one who was lonely. As the days passed Macy and Olivia hung out more and more. As the weeks passed I noticed a change in Olivia. Even Macy. They both dressed differently, spoke differently, acted differently. One day I tried to approach them but they just continued walking forward. And in class whenever the two were called on by the teacher they would act rude. And rude is definitely not Olivia. At least not the Olivia I knew.
I had to do something. Whatever evil thing Macy did to my friend was changing who she was. And it was also making a huge impact on my life. Every time I asked for their attention they would ignore me and pretend it was just a random student that bumped into them. Worst of all, Olivia took off her friendship bracelet. Even without it I know she would be my friend. But at that time I didn't think she was my friend anymore. Then one day my bubble burst. I screamed at her in the middle of class when she was being rude to the teacher. Our literacy teacher, Ms. O, asked for Olivia and Macy's attention. All they did was snicker and talk back rudely saying that we live in a free country. I couldn't tolerate it, I couldn't accept their behaviour. And at that point I even cared about Macy. She wasn't doing a good thing. So I screamed. I yelled at them. And this is what I told them:
"You are not the Olivia I knew! Ever since we met Macy you've changed! You aren't kind or nice or shy or the friend I had! You've changed and I don't like it at all!"
Although I didn't say a lot it still meant a lot. And Olivia was angered. Hot tears burned in her eyes. I could almost see her fists shaking. She got up from her chair and walked over to my desk. Then she yelled back at me.
"You are supposed to be the enemy here! You ditched the bracelet I gave you! You didn't try to find it! And I don't even care about it even more! Even without the bracelet we would have been friends! But no! When I tried to ask you what was wrong you blocked me out! I tried to help you that time in the cafeteria! Yet you never accepted it! Every time I asked if you wanted help you said no! Every time I told you you could tell me anything you said you didn't need me!"
At her words I balled up my fists. "SINCE WHEN? When did you EVER tell me that?! YOU NEVER ASKED ME IF I NEEDED HELP EXCEPT FOR THAT ONE INCIDENT!" now I was starting to cry. Even the teacher was listening. All eyes in the classroom were on us, all ears listening in on our argument as if it were a drama act. I began to get frustrated. "You always ignored me whenever I tried to talk to you! YOU WERE BRAINWASHED BY MACY. She is the problem here!" I took in a deep breath and tried to keep my voice from cracking, "You deserve better than me. I'm not worthy of such a friend like you!" I left all my stuff in the classroom and ran out to the hall with the hall pass in my hand. I ran to the bathroom. Olivia followed me and tried to get hold of me. Finally I turned around when we were in the clear. "What?" I asked. Olivia threw her arms around me and sobbed into my shoulder. I wanted to hug her back but I couldn't. I pushed her away, "Leave me alone!!!" Olivia looked pained. Then another girl from my class came into the washroom to call us back.
After months and months I kept ignoring Olivia and Macy. Both of them wanted my forgiveness but I didn't know what to do. I was scared that they would turn their backs on me after I forgave them. They begged me in the halls, sent notes during class, tried to approach me. I was still waiting for the time to come.
And then the day really did come. Olivia and Macy literally went down on their knees, "Please forgive us. We've been horrible friends, we really don't deserve you. We're sorry. We get it if you don't forgive us but please at least talk to us. Just one word is-"
They didn't need to say anymore. I wrapped my arms around them and we sat in the middle of the hall. I knew all eyes were on us and some people may have thought we were being stupid; but I've learned a valuable lesson...
I focused on the students and friends in the classroom, "I've learned that no matter what, friends will always be together."
Everyone cheered and clapped. I ran over to Olivia and we embraced right there on the spot. Macy stood up behind Olivia. I smiled and brought her into our group hug. And from then on we always stuck together. Like friends forever.
