Life asked Death, "Death, why is that everyone loves me and everyone hates you?"
A flock of birds were flying away from the two that were sitting there, but one had a broken wing and was struggling to fly. Death took it in his hands, and the birds life force was starting to fade.
"Because you are the beautiful lie," He responded. "And I am the hateful truth."

I woke up in excruciating pain. It was hard to breathe, and my chest rose up and down but faintly. My breathing was shallow, and my heart pumped hard to get blood to pulse through my body. I could barely even function like this.My eyes struggled to open, but eventually they did. The world was blurry and scarcely recognizable; it felt like everything was starting to fade away.
I attempted to get my arms under me and push up, but fell back down, grunting as I did so. The ground was hard and wet with sharp little spikes digging into my back. It was in no way comfortable.
"Good," someone said from beside me. "You're finally awake."
I tried to look over to where the feminine voice was coming from, but was barely even able to make an outline of the body.
"Wh..." I started, struggling to push air out of my diaphragm.
"Don't push yourself," she cooed. "You're in a safe place now."
I heard her come closer, scrambling over rocks and pebbles that fell down and echoed to somewhere below.
I gave another grunt, wanting more information but wasn't able to get any of my voice out other than a grunt. My eyes closed again in a wince as more pain shot through me.
"C'mon, keep resting. Her spell will help more if you rest."
My confusion was taking over my mind rather than the pain. Where was I? Who was she? What was happening? And why was I in so much pain?
Everything in my brain was starting to get fuzzy again. It hurt to think; it hurt to breathe. I started to fade off into the blackness that was sleep, and eventually became one with the darkness.
