Aubrey stood at the door, holding her breath. For some reason, she was second guessing herself. The familiar surroundings were for some reason very calming to her, and she was unsure why. As she stood in the quiet hallway, she began to think if she could do this. She really didn’t want to apologize for anything, especially when she felt she did nothing wrong. Her only other option was to turn around and go home, and that was a situation she would like to avoid even more. Maybe just apologizing for what had happened really wouldn’t be that hard. She knew that right behind that door was a boy who could make her forget everything, which is exactly what she wanted right now. To put it simply, this boy was her escape. After tonight’s events, an escape was all she needed. She could swallow her pride for ten seconds, couldn’t she?
Before she could stop herself, she knocked quickly on the door. The second she did it, she covered her face with her hands as she felt her heart pound. She kept her hands there until she heard the door unlock and open.
“Aubrey.. what are you doing here?” the familiar voice calmed her almost immediately. As she looked up, she saw Nate standing in front of her, dressed in his soccer shorts, slung low on his waist, and a zip up hoodie – without the zipper done up. Right away Aubrey was drawn to his chest. She held herself back from reaching out to touch him. She didn’t understand how so much anger towards him could be ignored the second she saw bare skin. “Hello? Aubrey?” Nate said again, waving a hand in front of her face. She saw a slight grin grow on his face as she snapped back to reality.
“Sorry. Uhm, I mean, hi. I just, I don’t know. I thought it would be ok if I came over for a bit. I was going to text you, but then I forgot my phone.” Aubrey babbled as she felt Nate stare at her. She suddenly felt nervous.
“It’s ok. Do you wanna come in?” Nate asked opening the door a little wider. Without a word, Aubrey followed him in. He led her to the living room where he fell back onto the couch. He leaned back and let his hand run through his hair, opening his sweater a little more, causing her to glance back down at his chest. She felt a level of lust run through her veins. She craved normalcy. She didn’t want to explain why she was there. She just wanted him. He stared back in her eyes and smiled again. “You ok?”
“Uhm, yeah I am. I just wanted to say I’m sorry for the other night. I overreacted.” She stuttered a little. Apologizing at this moment was far from enjoyable. She wished there was some way out of it. She stood in front of him with a small grin. She wanted this apology over with quickly. She leaned over him, putting her hands on either side of him, right above his shoulders. She figured exposing her chest to him a little would make him forget the argument and agree to what she was wanting. Just a little bit of distraction couldn’t hurt. She saw his eyes fall to her shirt, and she felt a sense of happiness. “I was thinking that maybe, I could make it up to you?” She let the words roll off her tongue, hoping that it came off seductively.
“I just don’t know if I can get it off my mind that you’re with other people…” she heard him say quietly. She could see that it was killing him to say what he just did, but that he was going to be stubborn. She felt her emotions drop. She was hoping so badly that he would just drop it. She needed him. She needed him right now. She never wanted to talk to him about who she’s been with, but maybe she had to, just to get what she wanted.
“Ok fine. You have three questions. That’s it. Then can we drop this?” she asked as she sunk down beside him on the couch. He turned to face her with a laugh.
“So, is this a game now? Just three questions?” he teased her.
“Well, I don’t want any questions. So I’m compromising with three. So go ahead.” She grinned back, shocked at how comfortable they were considering the conversation. She saw Nate run his hands through his hair again, which was really becoming a habit, thinking carefully about his choices.
