*Henry's p.o.v
"That's not even funny! " I snorted while wheeling down 12th street. "Then why are you laughing at it Mr. "I-bet-you-a-chocolate-bar-I-won't-laugh"?" Emily retorted as we came to "Robin's Convenience"
I stopped while Emily just stepped up to two half steps that would've made one on a regular staircase into the store. She only noticed I wasn't behind her when she was asking me about gum. "What's wrong Henry?" She asked, confused. "Stairs," I replied. She immediately came to my rescue, turning me around and hauling me up.
I navigated my way around the familiar, narrow aisles of the corner store. I dropped a Hershey's bar and a bag of Takis Fuego on my lap as well as a pack of sour peach rings. When I came to the front of the store there was a small display of breath mints. I might be needing those so I put a tin on the counter along with my other purchases.
When Emily (finally) brought her items up after a very hard debate with herself of whether Watermelon Strawberry Wave Powerade was better than White Cherry. She scanned the gum rack as she waited for me to buy my things. "Put your things up here you dork!" I tell her. "A-are you sure?" she asked hesitantly. "Yes. Now let me pay for it." I said, probably coming off as aggressive.
Emily bagged our items for us while I attempted to wheel down the stairs by myself.
"I really wish you would've let me help you with the stairs." She mentioned as we walked nowhere in particular. "I have to learn to do it myself since I'm not getting out anytime soon, don't I?" I said, not realizing how much Emily wanted to help me.
We came to Thornton City Park and found a promising bench where Emily sat down and sat our (somewhat suspect looking) black bag down next to her. I scooted in front of her my knees bumping into hers. I take in the scenery around us, breathing the sweet, dewy air. I reach into the bag, still admiring the damp trees then I felt a hand slip inside mine. I immediately find Emily's eyes. We pull away quickly, our faces reddening. Well, I don't actually know whether or not her cheeks reddened because I squeaked out a small noise and started pushing myself to the nearest tree.
I found my notebook and started doodling, I don't remember what but I was just going off the top of my head. I guess I'd been sitting there a while because Emily came up in front of me. "You okay?" She asked. I snapped back to reality, Emily's large eyes staring into mine. I blushed, trying to avoid her caring smile. "I'm fine."
She started to close the gap between us, her mischievous smile nearing my nervous lips. I braced myself for impact (but my breath mints were in the bag) she got closer and I didn't know quite when to close my eyes so I just waited. "BOOP!" Emily exclaimed, her button nose hitting mine. Then she fell back laughing, her black locks sprawling out on the dewy grass. "You should've seen your face!" She said in between laughing fits. "You looked like-you wanted to- ki-" She didn't finish after she saw my bright red face.
"Sorry." She said after minutes of silence.
We got up and started heading in the general direction of home.
