((* Well, here you go. Chapter 2. My life was practically threatened to write this so here goes nothing. *))

[this chapter will be following Kevin]

"Twenty five cents, please," Edd mumbled, his eyes fixed on the wooden counter top.

Kevin stuck his hand into his pocket to fish out a coin, soon realizing he only had paper money. He pulled out the crisp $1 bill and laid it down, "Got any change?"

"Of course," the raven-haired boy replied, tugging down on his hat and adjusted his scarf before reaching into the jar of coins to pull out the owed change. When he handed it over, Kevin couldn't help but notice how soft Double D's hand felt. Edd looked at him expectantly, reminding him that he was supposed to be asking a truth or daring him to do something.

"Get on with it!" Eddy said, "It's freezing cold out here."

"Shut it, dork. I'm thinkin' of somethin' to say," Kevin fired back, "you think I give a crap if you losers are cold?" his eyes flickered to Double D for a moment, because he did care if Edd was cold. His green eyes almost met the others cyan ones, but he didn't get the chance.

Things had been that way for years. Trying and trying to catch his eye, trying to talk to him alone, but the stupid Sockhead was scared of him. I'm such a dumbass, he always thought, knowing that it was his own fault, and the fault of that dumb ass Eddy. Why did Eddy have to ruin everything? Every time he tried to get close to Double D, every time he tried anything, Eddy would start talking about why they should "hate that satanic sleeze Kevin".

\/four months ago\/

Kevin stood in the locker room, sports bag slung over his shoulder, sweat just starting to dry on his forehead and cheeks. He was waiting for Eddward to finish getting dressed in his normal clothes.

Gym class had been especially awful that day, the coach made them run at least 20 stair-laps (up, around, down, up, around, down...the entire gym. Stairs on each side) and push ups, sit ups; there was no free-time at all, just hard work. Kevin was relieved that it was still easier than the football conditioning he had to do in the afternoons.

Edd stepped out of the stall (he didn't like changing in front of the others), continuing to pat at his skin with a sanitary wipe. "filth, filth," he said to himself, "oh dear."

"Hey, can I talk to you?" Kevin said, obviously startling the other boy.

Edd nearly jumped out of his skin, he clutched the wipe in his hand and backed up against the wall, sliding toward the door slowly, "No thank you, Kevin. I... I... I made plans with Ed and Eddy for after school."

"School ain't over for five more minutes, Double D," Kevin begged, slowly walking toward Edd.

"I must depart," Edd said, getting closer and closer to the door. He wrapped the wipe around the door knob and opened it, leaving quickly.

Kevin sighed, so much for that plan.

Kevin came back to reality, where Edd was sitting in front of him with a pleading look that said, please don't make this too humiliating. He hated that Edd was so afraid of him, he wanted to just start life all over again.

He was only mean to the trio because his best friend, Nat, had been becoming increasingly suspicious about Kevins feelings toward the nerd. The only solution he could think of was to start bullying them, but he tried to be nicer to Double D. Why can't you see it? he thought, why didn't you ever see how much kinder I was to you? Why were you so afraid of me, and why are you still so scared? You know how I feel now-

"Please, Kevin," Edd began, "we need you to hurry. It is already past the eighteenth hour and I have a strict study regimen for tomorrow that I still need to check and reorganize because of a few dares I received today."

Kevin decided against smart-mouthing him, it was not in his best interest. "Alright, alright. Double Dweeb, I dare you to-" his cheeks flushed a bit, "no... I dare you to skip gym class on our first day back...January 5th. You have to do it. Hide in the locker room through the whole class."

Edds eyes bulged, "Wh-what? You've got to be joking, why, I could never..." he could tell that the idea both attracted and repulsed Double Dork, and he liked that.

"You can, and you better," Kevin said, and walked away from the counter. He smiled to himself, I'm going to talk to you, whether you like it or not. I hope you like it, but... well, you will.

He walked across his yard, feeling eyes burning holes in his back, but he didn't care. Actually, he did care. He could feel Edd watching him; it made him self-conscious, his walking became stiff and awkward, his chest felt tight. This was occurring more and more often, ever since that kiss.

Kevin had been planning to confess his feelings to Edd that night, he had finally worked up the courage to tell him everything. He even talked Nazz into staying later than everyone else, but after everyone else was gone, she didn't want to stay. She told him that being the last to leave a party was lame, but that was perfect.

"I gotta talk to you, Double Dork," He said, forgetting to lose the mean tone. When Edd showed no signs of following him, he took him by the arm and led him behind the house. He was so nervous, he could barely breathe, and just as he opened his mouth to pour his freaking heart out, Edd started babbling.

"Kevin," Edd began, "please, I do not wish to get beat up on my birthday. Since you haven't ever done this, I knew my beating would come with time, but I am begging you to think logically. Is it worth it?" Edd looked terrified, he was already tensed up, waiting to get hit.

He was genuinely confused, he thought his intentions were...well, obvious. "You...really don't know, do you?"

"Know what..?" Double D asked, and his face scrunched up in confusion, it was the most adorable thing...

Kevin didn't know what Edd said next, it didn't matter, he just had to prove his point. Everything faded into white noise, even whatever Edd was saying. He just...did it. He kissed him right on the lips, snaking his arms around Double D's tiny waist; but he didn't kiss back. Kevin let him go, stepping back. He took a quick glance at Edds swolen lips, burning red cheeks, glazed over eyes, and he felt genuinely sad. "Goodnight, Double Dork..." he said quietly, and patted his beanie-wearing head before walking off to go home.

When he got home, he didn't care that his dad was screaming at him for being gone for so long, he didn't care that none of his chores were finished and his room was a huge stinkin mess, he didn't care about anything except for that little dork across the street. He was gone, hopelessly gone, and there was no turning back. He was in love.

Kevin kicked off his shoes and walked up the stairs to his bedroom. He opened the door, scooting clothes to the side with his feet, and headed toward his desk. No one knew about his drawings, not even his best friend. He loved art; to him, there was no such thing as bad art, and he loved feeling that way. He was pretty talented, but he didn't want anyone else to see that side of him..except maybe Double Dweeb.

He flipped through the pages, birds, trees, bikes, people... He had three or four of Edd, but he didn't want to draw him constantly like a stalker. Well, he did, but he didn't do it, because he always had this little pinch of hope in his heart that he could show it all to him someday.

Kevin pulled a few pencils, a kneaded eraser, and a blending stump out of a bag and flipped to a new page, drawing a jar of quarters and a $1 bill.
