Karkat Vantas walked down the dark alley leading to the fortune-teller's place. This fabled witch was supposed to help him; tell him what to do to fix his fucked up life. He seriously doubted the validity of her powers, but what other choice did he have? None, consequently.

He arrived in front of the small building, and it seemed to be closed. The windows were covered in dark curtains, but he knew she was here; he could see candlelight from the cracks in the curtains. He put down the hood on his black hoodie as he entered the small place, closing the door behind him.

She was there.

She sat at a round table, her back to him, and was wearing a ridiculous bright orange cloak. Her hood was up and he walked up to the table, placing a ten-dollar bill in front of her and sitting opposite her.

"Hello Karkat." she said humbly.

"How the fuck do you know my name?" he asked, annoyed that she seemed to be validating her 'powers' for him. But why was he annoyed? This meant she really could help him.

"I know lots of things about you." she said, pulling her hood down. "What do you need me to tell you?"

Karkat was surprised by her beauty, as he couldn't have heard it in her voice, which was mocking and condescending. She had large, expressive eyes, one of which had seven pupils, surprising the hell out of Karkat. Each pupil was a beautiful cerulean color, matching her lipstick.

She also had fangs. Yeah, like, real fucking fangs. He couldn't believe his eyes.

"Are you gonna answer me, asshole, or are you gonna just sit there and stare? I mean, Jegus, I know I'm hot, but damn."

"Uh, yeah. I guess I just need to know how to fix everything I've fucked up." Karkat answered, aggravated by her blunt way of speaking.

She laughed condescendingly. "You haven't fucked anything up; you just have bad luck. It makes sense really, seeing as I have all of the luck." She looked up at him from the cue ball she was holding. "All of it."

"This isn't helping me, you huge bitch! I just need to know how to fix it." Karkat yelled.

"There really isn't anything to fix. So, tell me if I'm wrong but, you moved two states away from your family to go to university, then you made some friends but scared them all off because of the huge asshole you are. You have got to know, that with you yelling at everyone, no one will want to be your friend."

She leaned in, gesturing for Karkat to do the same. "I'll let you in on a little secret..." Karkat leaned in a bit, his sleep-deprived eyes trying to focus on her face.

"You don't have to be a good person to be a hero." she said with a small smile, revealing her sharp set of pearly-whites. Karkat narrowed his eyes, about to yell at her for still not helping, when suddenly he felt the irresistible urge to sleep. Against his will, he fell to the ground in a deep slumber.

Vriska Serket smiled down at her fallen comrade. He actually seemed more peaceful when he slept; she suspected he hadn't in some time. Of course, the only reason he was now was that Vriska had manipulated his mind, or as she would say, "manipul8ed".

The Thief of Light dragged Karkat's sleeping self to the couch, sitting next to him. She knew he would be of great use to her; she needed him to get revenge. The young college student had no idea what was in store for him.

She secretly deeply resented Karkat. He feels like his life is so fucked up, if only he could be Vriska for a day, feel the shit she does every day. Then he might not complain so much.

She reached over and lightly brushed his cheek with her thumb. It had been so long since she'd had any kind of relationship that wasn't blackrom. She could make this young man a great Alternian hero. She could help Karkat realize a great destiny he would never find on his own.
