On your long ride to the base you thought of how you had no experience in the past of how to fight or how to run. To this day all you knew, is that you were forced to join the mercenaries after you caused a panic in a hotel. You did have a name but you had forgot it long ago when you left your home as a runaway. It didn't matter to you as you walked into your new home, a base in Teufort you wish was warmer; so used to the heat of Arizona and the un-predictableness of Michigan you couldn't deal with the middle temperature of sixty degrees.
Before you came you were shown everything you needed to know, including who each member of the red team were and how you will become the medic's apprentice due to lack of skill. The voice on the phone had said it was an easier, less regrettable job for someone as new as yourself. You didn't complain, you didn't really have a job before so you took it while she was already putting your name into the respawn system.
Despite being wary you knew you didn't need to worry about family or friends missing you in the slightest; you were in a rut before, nearly taking your own life just before the call saying you were going to be transported to Teufort as a RED team member. Taking a deep breath you opened the wooden door, your chilled body shuddering in your sweater at the feeling of warmth from the indoors. Nearly taking a relieved sigh you walk in with your small bag of clothes and toiletries.
Everyone was lined up to greet you in the dining hall you entered. Sighing you say hello to each before counting only eight there. Squinting you recount. "If yer lookin fer Medic, he's in his lab." Engineer walked over to you as everyone dispersed. "Ah'll take ya to 'im."
"Thanks, I didn't realize how tall everyone was. Now I feel short being only five foot five." You snorted, following the engineer to the medic's lab. "I am probably the least qualified to do anything here but the administrator said being a medic was going to be the easiest way to earn my place."
"Well, kinda, it gets pretty hectic out der kiddo. I reckon jou stay in tha lab till yer confident enough ta kill." Coming up to a set of heavy metal doors you stop, unsure if the red on it was rust or blood.
Giving your thanks to Engineer you walk up to the door, knocking with confidence. "Doctor, I'm your new assistant.
Calmly the door swung inward, showing a large grinning man nearly twice your size. Once again you feel short. The grin on the medic's face dropped some as he looked around. Huffing heavily you snap your fingers and he looked down. "Ah, Fraulein I vas vondering vhere jou vere!" he opened the door more and let you inside. "velcome to mien lab!"
Walking in you took in the sight of the six foot three man, bags under the eyes suggest he hasn't slept, shaking in his arms as he moved suggested he was stressed in his little lab world. Holding out your hand you shook the larger one, his accent was a little harsh on your ears but you didn't want to offend your new trainer. "Hello Medic, I'm Red."
"Vhy yes jou are! Vhat is your name, fraulein?" he smiled expectantly.
"I...okay, look I don't have a name, just call me Red or something..." you hesitantly looked down at the floor, unable to look into your mentors eyes.
"Oh! Huh, ja, ve vill just have to give jou a nickname zen." Going over to his desk a pigeon landing on his shoulder as he wrote down a note, handing it to you. "Zis is ze room we will be staying in till ve finish jour added room. Sadly ve vere not as prepared as ve hoped."
You took the number, nodding. "All right, and my uniform?"
"Zat is already on jour bed in ze room, do not vorry fraulein, ve vill start our training soon." He walks away, going back to his work without another word.
Leaving the ward you notice the halls seemed darker. 'How long was I in there?' You thought, walking down the corridor in search of your room. Thankfully it was only three doors down from the ward. Going in you sigh, seeing two double beds you take the one with your uniform on it. "Wonderful, I get to stay in a room with the weirdest one here." You thought out loud, not bothering to go into the bathroom as you changed into your new gear. Dark pants that went to your ankles, and a red button up shirt you tucked into the slightly fancy pants. Your breasts did not appreciate the pressure, forcing you to undo the top two buttons. You told them a large shirt even with only having D size cups, sadly they gave you a large in women's. You'll have to ask if they have men's in the morning.
As you were huffing over your attire a buzzer beside the door lit up a light next to a poorly made labeling system that said 'Dinner'. Grumbling softly you grabbed your light jacket and zipped it up, not wanting to reveal your chest as much as the shirt wanted. Leaving your room you notice everyone's lights were off as they head out to the kitchen but looking to the infirmary all the lights were still on. Already finding it somewhat unnerving you walk back to the ward, not bothering to knock as you entered. "Yo, medic. It's time to go eat!" you called.
After no response you huff and go to where you last saw him. On his desk were notes, skimming each one quickly you find one that had your name on it. Picking it up you read it, 'recruit: Red. Needs uberheart and a b2-ch4-p1-pro2. Small frame, 5'5", 23 years of age. Note: Difficult at first but quickly listens. Let us just hope she can make it through procedures with little to no incident.'
Before you could look any further into your files a hand quickly takes the folder. "Nien, not for jou little Red. But do not vorry, you vill understand vhat zese notes mean soon!" His gloves off and no coat you could see the stress he put on himself, the wrinkled shirt, dried blood stains and a few rips.
"Right, well, from what I have learned so far, the buzzer went off for dinner, sir." You said formally, trying to get your mind off the numbers on the paper. Turning he nodded and followed you out back toward the kitchen. Everyone had assigned seats, a newer seat with RED carved into it is where you sat. On each side of you were Medic and Scout; who decided he was worthy enough to try and share food with you. But you being the cold hearted meat eater you are nearly stabbed him in the hand with your fork when he reached to grab your steak.
After dinner you and medic decided to turn in as your training started at dawn tomorrow morning, the first cease fire day in a month Spy had told you. Standing by your bed you started to unpack, shoving the five outfits you had into only one dresser drawer. The second dresser drawer contained your tampons and pads along with your other toiletries to hide away from the others prying eyes, not wanting to risk someone just thinking they're cool and taking them for stupid things. Looking to medic you yawn, not bothering to change you flopped your body down on your bed.
"Is somezing bothering jou, frau?" medic asked as he stripped into his boxers.
"No, just overwhelmed. One minute I'm living the life, running from the law, nothing to worry about then bam, suddenly someone knows my number and tells me I'm being relocated into a base of nine men and forced to fight another team like, I don't even have a name! Do you know how nervous I was? I nearly left just because someone asked my name, Medic!" you were sitting up now, your hands flying everywhere as you talked, your face growing red with agitation. You stopped and breathed. "I-I'm sorry, a lot has happened today."
"Nien, it is fine. I understand completely!" he gave you a smile, taking off his glasses. "Do you feel better now zat jou spoke about it?"
You paused, lowering your arms into your lap. "Actually? Yeah, I feel much better." You sighed softly, relieved you didn't upset your mentor.
"Zen zere is no reason to say sorry, liebling." He laid back down. "Good night, Red."
"Goodnight medic, thank you for listening." With that, you both snored the night away.
