•Chance's POV•

~Le Timeskip~

Emmett, Alissa and I stand at Emmett's locker. Things between Alissa and I have been rather.... uncomfortably tense ever since she kissed me. Don't get me wrong. I love Alissa, just not in the way that I love Axel.
"Right Chance?" Emmett asks me.
"Huh? Oh.. sorry I wasn't listening." I reply, earning a chuckle out of Alissa.
"Oh my god. I was just saying how weird it is that Axel and Rachel aren't, like, dating anymore. Don't you think?" He says. I nod. I don't need anyone else knowing that I still have feelings for Axel.

Just then Axel walks over to us, but something is off, and I'm not the only one who notices. He's also limping, and he's... wearing my beanie that I gave him, when we were dating..?
"..Hey, guys..." Axel says weakly.
"Are you okay?" I blurt out, quite loudly, might I add. Alissa and Emmett give me a look of 'Calm down' and Axel's cheeks are dusted with a bit of red.
Axel nods. "I.. I'm fine.."
Why is he lying? What happened to him? Why is he wearing my beanie!? I'm so confused!! I decide to drop it and not pry. I think Alissa and Emmett decide to do the same.
"So how were your guys' nights last night?" Emmett asks. Alissa and I make eye contact, and I instantly look away. Axel gives me and Alissa a strange look, then does this thing with his eyebrows when he's thinking. I know that look too well.

"Good." Alissa says.
"Bad.." Axel mutters, just loud enough for me to hear.
"Fine." I say.
Just then, my little sister Lilly walks over to me with a boy who's a bit taller than her.
"Hey Chance!" She says.
"Hey Lilly, who's this?" I ask.
"Oh!" She begins. "This is Sam, my boyfriend!"
"You have a boyfriend?" Alissa asks.
"Yup!" Lilly replies.
"That is so cute! I ship it!" Alissa exclaims.
I smile. I'm happy for Lilly, she's always complaining about how her friends all have boyfriends, so this explains why she hasn't been complaining that often.
"Did you tell Mom and Dad?" I ask.
"Yeah, and Sam is coming to have dinner at our house tonight!" Lilly says.
"Cool." I say.

And with that Lilly and Sam walk away, hand in hand. I turn back to Axel, Emmett and Alissa. We keep talking until the first tardy bell rings. Emmett and Alissa walk away, and Axel and I are left alone. I start to head to class, when Axel stops me.
"Hey wait!" He says.
I turn to face him. I have to look up a bit because he's a bit taller than me.
"Yeah?" I ask.
"What was all that about? With Alissa?"
My eyes widen slightly. "N-Nothing."
"I can tell when you're lying, Chance." He says.
"I can tell when you're lying too, Axel. I know you're not okay. You were, and still are, limping." I say.
He gulps. "I-I'm fine.."
"No you're not." I state.
"I-I-I..." He looks down. "Don't want to t-talk about i-it.."
"S-Sorry.." I mutter.
"It's fine.. Uhm.. do you.. want to walk to class with m-me? You have English, right?" Axel asks.
I nod. We walk to our English class, saying nothing. The silence between is like a comfortable silence, so I don't mind us not saying anything to each other.

•Axel's POV•

~a wild timeskip appears~

After English class, I try to find Alissa. I need to know what happened between her and Chance. The tension between them is killing me. I see Alissa grabbing some books out of her locker and I walk over to her.
"Hey." I say.
"Oh, hey Axel! What's up?" She asks.
"I want to know what happened between you and Chance. Something clearly happened and I want to know."
"I-I'm not allowed to tell you. Ch-Chance told me not to.." She replies.
I frown. "Please. The tension between you two is killing me."

Alissa sighs. "Okay, but promise you won't tell Chance that I told you?"
"Cross my heart and hope to die." I say.
"Okay, so Chance came over to my house last night because I asked him to, and I was really upset because Jacob... p-passed away. Chance took us to the ice cream shop that we all used to go to. When he dropped me off I.. Uhm.. I k-kissed him, but! He didn't kiss me back because he's still in love with you!!!"
My jaw drops. Chance is still i-in love with m-me!?
