Ledus POV

From a young age vampires are taught about how the moon goddess created mates for the many different species the darker side are home to. For vampires we are taught the moon goddess creates soul that are perfect however they are unable to be contained in one body so she spits it into two beings that are meant to be together. This is a mate, and your soul purpose is to find your other half to be complete. From a young age you wish to find them, however the goddess does not let you find them until you both understand that you need the other this usually happens around 16 then we begin to understand our desires for our missing partner. This is how vampires explain mates to their children, however others like shifters explain it has two people made for each other.
"Ledus, come on it's our 18th birthday hurry up" my twin sister Mary yelled, Mary was lucky she found her mate at 14 he was 17. I question the stories of mates when there is an age difference because wouldn't the goddess send them to earth at the same time, I asked and the answer I like the most was that a soul will always come together but people were another story and to make sure the faults of people didn't separated the soul the goddess finds the ideal two people to spit the soul into.
" I'm coming, I'm coming!" I yell back at her as I run to the party. When I get to the table everyone is all together, including our great grandfather. The royal family has one person everything 1000 years who we call touched by snow, their appearance is white hair, pale ice blue eyes and pale skin, my great grandfather is one such person and I am another. Because of the vastly long life spans of our vampire race mates can be harder to find. It took my great grandfather 300 years to find my great grandmother, grandfather took 500 years, and my father found my mother 50 years ago after about 170 years of searching. That's why my sister is lucky to find her mate so early in life.
" Happy birthday Mary and Ledus, 18 down hundreds more to go." our mother cheered, with everyone yelling in agreement, our family only parties were all over the place. The formal royal dance that is held in our honor is in two weeks, when we all act properly.
Mary and I blown out the candles, the party continued however I was sitting just past the light watching the stars hoping for a sign for my mate. Great grandfather Don sits next to me and says, "I know it's hard wanting to find your mate, but it makes you realize just how sweet having one is. Perhaps their not a vampire, they could not be born yet however when you find them you will understand my words."
" I already understand that's why I'm being patient, however I still feel that I'm missing something." I reply, still staring at the stars. He pats me on the shoulder and goes back to the party, as the night continued on I had a bad feeling. With my family dancing and making merry, at the edge of my vision as I look at the beautiful winter stars that shown clearly on this night. That hours go by, but the feeling never stops I turn to call my brother over when a flash of silver catches my vision.
That's when hunters come out of the tree line across the field I run to my sisters my twin and my younger sister and push them behind me just as a hunter is about to take a swipe with a silver sword at them. I saved their lives, however the sword made a deep cut across my face that will scar, I'll be lucky if I still have my left eye after this. My sisters run for safety as I fight this hunter off, with my left eye closed it takes me longer to finish him off. But it takes to long has two more are there and three are coming this way. I look to see almost all my family is safe my father is fighting off two other hunters while trying to get over to me almost everyone is. The closest to me is my sister's mate, but he isn't much of a fighter, I point to my sisters how have hunters going after them.
" Don't worry about me, get them out!" I ordered him, he didn't want to but he followed my orders.
I am able to kill another hunter, then I took his sword and use it to protect my family while they ran saving the children, but my older brother, my king, was trying to get to me, trying to save me but at this point I was surrounded by way to menu.
"Ledus!!" He yelled as the rest of my family held him back, I look at him and shake my head no. I took the sword I had killed six of them myself so far, though the silver sword in my hands was burning them.
"You are the king, not just my elder brother. You have to live, I'll be back even if I get captured; just you wait." I told him, by then I had cuts and was in bad shape. I was tackled and bound, and hit in the back of the head hard. The pain doesn't last long as I pass out.
