H I L D A
Well, nowadays you certainly can't know who is a human being and who is one of the magicals, The Sum, as they call it here in New York.
I have just confused one of my few costumers, a dryad, with a gnome. I mean, they're all living trees basically.
And I don't think looking at me for the first time you could tell I'm a witch. Because yeah, that's who I am, your average old hag, grey hair, crooked nose, children eating monster... Nah.
Cast away the stereotypes, really, I've just been there. If there's one thing I've learnt since I moved here is that nothing is the way it seems at first.
For example, pixies (little sparkling fairies with wings) are raging kleptomaniacs when it comes to jewelry. I had an encounter with a horde walking down the street with some purifying bracelets. I was trying to get away but that time I hadn't known they could speed up to 30 m/h.
Or that our President is a werewolf and naiads (water loving wenches if you ask me) live in our lakes, rivers and even in our garden pools.
Now you could ask me why I was so uninformed about the Magic stuff when I was one of The Sum's people. For that we have to go back to Virginia, where I spent almost all of my life suffering from my way too witchy family.
Of course, it wasn't all a pain in my butt though. I just wasn't interested in following with my relatives images of my future. Half of them wanted to make a proper sorceress out of me which I certainly wasn't. The other half was just as screwed as me. I mean I loved them but I needed some air.So I moved. The reason why I chose New York was because my all-life best and only friend, Sib (Annika Siberius) with whom I grew up together had already moved here two years ago for college.
Besides Sib, who was a vampire, I didn't know any other magical people closely, I only knew the basics, not the specifics and peculiar customs of the other spices. I was attending human schools and when at home studying about the Magical World, I didn't pay as much attention as I should have I'm afraid.
Now thinking about it, maybe I should have gone through a book about tree fairies before driving away the few customers I finally managed to have now.
I realized I should have thought about a lot more things in advance. Like trying to launch a similar business in a neighborhood full of shops of witchcraft, psychics and fortune tellers wasn't t the best idea.
I was mostly selling protection against spells and curses for those who couldn't use magic or doing some home purifying if asked and paid for. Now I was on the level of doing any pitiful jobs for some compensation.
But I was not even near going back to Virginia admitting defeat. I was going to manage somehow. I just had to find something big to gain a little popularity. And until then I guess I should be looking at those books about fairies.
