hey it's steve. steve harrington. you heard me. king steve, who loves kfc.
we finshed up and packed everything up in hopper's car. he quickly told jonathan the directions and they were on their way. hopper and el left soon after and i was left with the kids.
dustin made me carry the dead demodog to the fridge, where he claimed it wasn't an ordinary animal. i slammed the door and messed up his hair, sighing. inside the living room, mike was pacing. i grabbed a towel and wiped the shit off my hands.
"dude just stop already!" lucas shouted.
"you weren't in there lucas!" mike yelled. "the place is swarming with hundreds of those dogs."
"demodogs!" dustin corrected.
"the chief will take care of her," lucas told him.
"yeah because she needs protection," i heard max mumble.
"listen, if coach calls a play, bottom line, you execute it. okay?" i rubbed the towel on my hands.
"first, this isn't some stupid sports game. and second, we aren't in the game we are on the bench," mike said v
"right so," i swallowed as the kids waited for my speech. "yeah so there's nothing we can do."
"that's not exactly true," dustin started. "these demodogs have a mind of their own. when they ran from the bus they were called away."
"so if we get their attention," lucas said.
"we can get them away from the lab," max added.
"and we can clear a path to the gate!" mike finished.
"yeah and then we all die," i said.
"not necessarily," dustin replied.
"i got it!" mike shouted. he brought us over to the red x. "this is where the chief dug his hole. this is our way in. and over here," he brought us to the center. "this is our hub. see how all the tunnels feed here? maybe if we light this on fire."
"oh, yeah. that's a no," i pointed to mike.
"the mind flayer would call his army," lucas added.
"they'd all flood there," dustin chimed in.
"and we'd circle back to the exit," mike said.
"hey," i tried to end their conversation.
"by the time they realize we're gone," mike ignored me.
"guys," i tried again.
"el would be at the gate!" max finished.
"hey! hey! hey! this isn't happening," i interrupted.
"but," mike started.
"no, no buts. it's a no. got it?" they remained silent. "i need a yes." but before any of them could answer, an engine roared outside.
