"What is it you wanted to show me?" I ask, shoving my notebook into my binder as Wilson tugs me out of the classroom.
"I got the stuff." he says vaguely, unlocking his locker and swinging it open.
"What stuff?" I raise an eyebrow at him as I zip up my binder. He reaches into his bookbag and pulls out a plastic bag. Before I can question it, he holds it open for me to look inside.
Four candles, two white and two light purple, chalk, paper, ink...
"The ritual ingredients." I state, more to myself than to him.
"Yup!" Wilson nods excitedly. "And now we can open the portal!"
"But, wait. After we get it open, how're we supposed to keep Willnia alive here? We still didn't figure that part out." I point out.
The light in his eyes dims. "Oh. Right."
"Looks like we're making another trip to the library." I sigh.
"And the store." Wilson adds.
We really didn't think this one through.

After another expedition to the secret room and some reading in the book, we managed to discover a potion that could be used to reinforce the tether of whoever drinks it. All that's needed is the blood and tears of the people participating.
Which includes Willnia.
We'll have to be very quick about it. I'll probably have to be the one to enter the portal and find her---my tether is the strongest out of the three of us.
Wilson knows this, and he's not too happy about it. He wanted to know why I got to be the first to see her. I had to remind him of the whole tether situation and he reluctantly backed off. I can tell he's still a little annoyed, though.
Within the last few minutes of Lunch, Wilson and I plan to spend the night in the lab tonight to perform the ritual. We can make the potion after we fix the portal. We'll get the blood for it from papercuts or something, and I found an orange in my bookbag, so we could stab it and get tears from spraying the juice in our faces. I have no better ideas.
I think of all this as I crouch to hoist my binder from the bottom of my locker. The warning bell rings just as I stand and put my lock on the metal box I entrust with my prized possessions.
I jog into Mr. Robinson's classroom for Social Studies just as he looks up from his desk. I slip into my seat at the back and slam my stuff on the desktop. Maddie M. gives me a sideways glance as I slouch in the chair.
I internally sigh.
I've got a lot ahead of me tonight.
