Black clothing overpopulated the cemetery. Long dresses, black hats, suits and ties. Blotchy red eyes and Kleenex was everywhere you looked. Tears streaming down the faces of many. A slide show plays with the photos of the loved one. A live band plays in the background, and I am the singer. This is the second funeral I have performed at .As the funeral ends, the band starts to pack up. I don't usually perform with a band, but this was an exception. I gather my things as a woman comes up to me, holding an envelope.
" Thank you so much," she whispered, clearly trying not to sob, " my Gracie would have loved it."
I just nodded. I knew Gracie Reed from school. She was a popular cheerleader with red hair and sky blue eyes. We were never really close. She was dating Josh Noa, the quarterback of the school football team. When she was in the hospital with cancer, Josh took it pretty hard and rarely left her side. When she died, nobody heard from him for a few weeks. We later found out that him and his family moved sates and were not coming back. Everyone felt so bad for him. He was also best friends with Gracie's twin brother, Adam.
I look over and see Adam stacking chairs. I mumbled another thanks to Gracie's mum and headed over to where Adam was.
" My condolences. " I say.
" What?" He says, turning around. His flaming red hair and clear blue eyes shone in the light.
" I said, my condolences ." I repeated.
" Great. Thanks." He says and storms off.
I frown, stunned by the rudeness. I guess he has a right to be a little bad tempered, considering he's at his twins funeral. I walk to my car and think about the sadness the Reed family must be feeling. I felt the same way when my dad died in a car crash five years prior. I shake my head and drive home. Now is not the time to be sad for my own sake.
