Ved felt nervous being alone with Natasha, well they weren't technically alone but still. He looked at her, Natasha didn't meet his gaze and kept playing with her sunglasses, occasionally she tugged her hair behind her ears. She kept shifting in her seat as well.

Ved cleared his throat, - 'So? You aren't – um- working?' Ved mentally slapped himself for asking such a silly question.

Natasha smiled placing her arms on the table, she shook her head, - 'Apparently not.' Ved blushed and she continued – 'This one week my working hours are in the evening.'

Ved noticed her smile drop, he looked at her concerned, - 'Everything alright?' He asked. Natasha shook her head and forced a smile.

'Yeah,' – she shrugged and then added as an afterthought, - 'Just gets very hectic.'

Ved nodded. 'Yeah, I can understand. Meeting deadlines and targets, spending days, evenings and even nights at work. This rat race sucks our blood.' He said.

Natasha nodded. Ved watched her long finger swirling around the top of the salt stand.

'Hey?' Ved said

Natasha sighed sadly, her gaze fixed on the salt stand, - 'Especially when you are alone and trying to make ends meet.' She said in a small voice.

She sounded sad and Ved didn't like it. Also, he didn't understand what she meant. To distract her he forced a smile and said in a bright voice, - 'Let's order.'

Natasha looked at him and smiled too. Ved joked that it would have been faster if Natasha took his order. Natasha chuckled at his joke.

Ved looked around for a waiter when he felt her soft palm over his. He felt his heart stop.

'Ved?'

His heart fluttered. He turned to look at her.

'Can we go to some other outlet.' She looked around and then back at him, - 'It feels awkward here.' She said. Ved stared into her beautiful eyes and nodded. She smiled and stood up, Ved stood up too. As they walked together, a waitress stopped them. She looked startled at Natasha.

'Hey, Natasha!' She sounded amazed. Ved noted, Natasha was little uncomfortable. 'What are you doing here, isn't your shift a few hours later?' She asked glancing at her watch. Then her gaze fell on Ved. She looked at Natasha and smiled. 'Oh! Sorry to interrupt.' She winked at Natasha.

Natasha rolled her eyes, - 'Please, Asha, we are just hanging out.' She cleared everything. Ved nodded. Well, it is true.

'Okay, as you say. Just make sure, he is okay with it.' Asha said and Ved noticed Natasha's expressions change. Ved wondered who "he" is? He secretly hoped Natasha isn't committed. But if she is then she wouldn't have been so casual with him.

Don't take chances. Once bitten twice shy! Ved's brain rang an alarm in his head.

'Uh, Natasha.' He stopped as they came out of the coffee outlet. She turned around and looked at him. Ved hesitated before saying.

'I think I should be going to-' he started and felt guilty noticing her fallen face, but he continued, - 'You know meeting targets and all. Our boss is strict.' He finished lamely. Judging my Natasha's expressions, he realized she knew he is lying. Ved made an apologetic face.

'Okay.' Natasha shrugged and without waiting for his response she walked past him and back into the café. Ved exhaled loudly.

As Ved walked towards his office, he kept thinking about Natasha and her disappointed face. He felt bad. But this had to be done. He had to harden his heart to avoid heartbreak in the future. He recollected Dia and Vikram from earlier and felt his heart drop. He can't risk going through another heartbreak.

But you hardly know her. What if she isn't committed. At least get to know her- The other part of his heart said.

Ved sighed and kicked a small stone as he walked. He found himself in a terrible dilemma.
