DJ's POV:

We were different. We stuck out like a sore thumb even when we didn't try to. But that's the way it's always been. Just us against the world. Gee, Andy and I. I remember it as clear as day, the exact moment we all met. As a kid, I was quiet and usually kept to myself  until Andy came up to me with his big blue eyes and goofy smile asking me if I wanted to play. I was confused and angry. "Does he think I need his pity?", I thought. But then he continued to hold out his small hand and something in me made me say yes.

As we grew older, I noticed him more and more.I noticed how he would always swoop his jet black locks out of the way and how his smile reached his eyes And before I knew it I was helplessly in love. It angered me. I had never once glanced at another man but Andy... He caught my eye and I never knew why. Now Gee, he was a whole another story. We met him in middle school at the start of sixth grade. He was different too and stuck out since like Andy he was one of the few non-black kids living in a all black neighborhood. We heard he moved to L.A all the way from South Korea. Even as kids, we were hesitant in accepting people that were different from us. We weren't used to it yet.

"Why don't we go talk to him, Deej?" I scowled and looked across at the boy. "No", was my answer. Andy pouted his lips and frowned. It's not that I didn't want to be friends with him. It's just because well I was afraid to lose Andy to someone else. As I was walking home from school I saw some older kids harassing that boy. I stopped dead in my tracks and watched just what he would do. I was surprised, he held up pretty good. They were trying to jump him and I finally intervened. "What the fuck are you doing?" The three of them turned around and scowled. "Fuck Off, DJ" "Yeah, it's none of your business" , chimed in another. "Oh shut the hell up Malik, we all know all you do is ride Sean's dick."

Yeah... You can probably guess how that turned out. In the end, we both ended up walking away from the fight with black eyes and grins plastered across our faces. It was good, I mean life was good. But I guess my perfect little world had to come crashing down at some point. My whole world turned upside down when Kiji showed up. I guess this time I couldn't just sit here and admire Andy from afar anymore. I had to actually take what was mine...

Author's Note: I will try my best to update this book friday or saturday. This is really my first book because the one that I wrote earlier didn't do so well so I consider this a fresh start. Feel free to leave me any suggestions or constructive criticism. ❤, River
