"Crack!" Thunder booms in the skies above. Jackie runs as fast as she possibly can. She was out getting food and it started to pour. Not long after that a full blown storm broke free. When she gets back to her den she finds her mother waiting for her. How worried she must of been. Jackie was only a yard away when all hell broke loose. Lightning struck a tree and came crashing down on her mother.
It had started out like any other day. It was dawn and the birds were singing their beautiful song. Jackie stretched her legs out and told her mom she was going to the lake. Her mom told her to be careful. When Jackie got to the lake she got a drink and left to hunt.
"Ooo, rabbit." She thought.
She wasn't very good at hunting yet, but she knew she had this one. She gets ready to pounce as she sees a flash of citrus orange take her prey.
"Hey!" she screams.
The fox lifts up its head and Jackie immediately recognizes the prey-snatcher.
"Hazel!" Jackie screams.
"Oh, was this yours?" Hazel says sarcastically.
Jackie frowns.
"I was joking. We can share it." Hazel says.
Jackie and Hazel stayed together after that. They hunted, raced, and swam. That was until the sky filled with smokey-gray clouds.
"See you later!" Hazel shouted as she ran back home.
"Bye!" Jackie exclaimed.
When Hazel left everything was 10x more boring. Jackie walked around, kicking rocks. Eventually she went back to the lake. That's when it started to pour. She started to drag herself back to her den. She has so much more energy when she's with Hazel. And that's when it started to pour. She bolted back home and when she was a yard away from her den, the life got crushed out of her mother.
"Mooooom!" she screamed.
Jackie ran to the tree that ended her mother's life to find a paw sticking out from under the tree. She collapsed beside the tree and started to weep. It was like it was meant to be. It could of picked any other tree! But it had to pick that one! Her eyes began get heavy, she closed her eyes and didn't open her eyes until noon of the next day. Water dripped on to her nose. It was peaceful, at first, until she had remembered the events of the day before. She whipped her head around to find that it was not a dream. It was all real. She stood up and saw Hazel.
"What the hell happened?"
Jackie burst into tears. Hazel walked over to where Jackie was standing and saw the orange paw.
"Who is this? Where's your mom?" Hazel questioned.
Jackie looked at Hazel with sad eyes.
"Oh my God. I'm so sorry Jackie."
