"Run!! I will hold them back! Just take Amber and run away from here!!" The King of the Starlight kingdom shouted to his wife while casting spells at the titans who were crushing the palace. The Queen of the Starlight kingdom picked the small girl up and started running through the castle gardens as fast as her legs could carry her.
Amber held on tightly to her mother, tears streaming down her face as she prayed for this all to just be a nightmare and that at any moment she would wake up in her warm bed snuggled against her soft teddy bear.
But this is no nightmare, this is war.
Towering over buildings and magic beings were the titans, giants that were about 15 meteres tall with enormous strength and an appetite to match their height.
They trampled over anything and everything, occasionally stopping to pick up screaming people and swallow them whole as if they were just an afternoon snack.
The magic beings in the kingdom managed to slay half of the titans, after all the Starlight kingdom earned the title of "most powerful kingdom" for a reason. But there were just too many of them, black mages supported the titans with their magic and using their dark magic to attack the citizens themselves.
Splatters of blood were everywhere, screams of protests could be heard from a mile away, sounds of explosions rang through the air as tall buildings crumbled to the burning ground.
It was total chaos.
The Queen and young princess reached the outside of the castle and started running towards the surrounding forest. A swarm of black mages chased after them, they raised their hands and started reciting a spell, black magic circles appeared in front of their hands and started glowing.
Glancing over her shoulder, the Queen muttered to herself, "This is bad..."
She put Amber down gently and faced the black mages. She raised her hands as well, a golden magic circle forming in front of her.
The Queen turned her head back towards her confused and terrified daughter. She smiled gently and said, "Don't worry Amber, we are all going to be okay, you believe me right?"
Amber used her hands to wipe her tears but to no avail, tears trailed from sapphire blue eyes down her pale face.
The Queen whispered to her, "We will be alright, don't cry anymore." She gave a weak smile but the smile didn't chase away the worry and fear in her eyes.
"Now i want you to run away as fast as possible, far far away from here and whatever you do, don't look back." One more encouraging smile and she turned back to the ones responsible for the destruction of her kingdom.
She focused all her energy into the spell, large thick vines burst from the shining magic circle and flew towards the black mages. The vines wrapped around the black mages' bodies and threw them back a couple of feet.
The black magicians fought back, they cast magic on the vines causing the vines to shrivel and wither away turning to dust that fell harmlessly to the ground.
The Queen screamed at the top of her lungs, "AMBER GO!! NOW!!"
Amber took one last look at her brave mother and took off in the other direction. Bitter tears clouded her vision as she ran into the woods surrounding the kingdom, she had no idea where she was running but she knew she had to get as far away as possible.
She screamed, "Help! Someone! Anyone! Help!" Her voice sounded ragged and broken as she cried for someone to help her.
A shadow flew past her and skidded to a stop a few feet in front of her.
Amber couldn't stop herself in time and banged into the hard chest of the person in front of her. She fell on her bottom and looked up only to meet the cold eyes of one of the black mages.
The black mage smiled, but there was no warmth in that smile, just anger and coldness.
"There's no one here to help you my dear princess," The black mage chuckled darkly before wrapping his rough hand around Amber's throat, he lifted her up with ease as the princess gasped and kicked, struggling for oxygen.
"Submit yourself to the Void and you will be unharmed... well for a short time at least."
Dark spots bloomed insight and she could feel her heart faltering, she knew she was in trouble the moment the words left her mouth, but she knew her parents would be proud.
"I've already been harmed... but you know what... stars can't shine without darkness"
The man's evergreen gaze seem to darken and his grip tightened even more at the sound of the Starlight kingdom's motto.
That sickening smile grew wider and he mumbled, "Then die."
Out of the blue, there was a bright flash of light. The dark mage let go of her and Amber dropped to the ground once again.
The light was blinding, but there was a soft healing heat to it. The small wounds along her face disappeared and bleeding wounds shrunk to a harmless scratch.
Amber found comfort in the light, but the same could not be said about the dark mage.
She watched as the midnight blue coloured robe he was wearing burn and disintegrate, bright angry red spots blossomed along the skin of his arm and his scream of fustration burn itself into Amber's memory.
The dark mage collapsed onto the ground, uncouncious or dead, Amber did not want to find out.
The light grew and Amber felt herself being pulled, the next moment she found herself in a living room sitting on a sofa. The sofa was in front of the fire place and Amber watched in confusion as the luminous flames licked the top of the fire place casting a soft glow on the walls. There were two bookshelfs beside the window, in front of the windows was a big desk with sheets of paper neatly arranged on it.
Behind the desk sat a young women with glasses. She was wearing a blue dress with sliver stars on it that reached her knees. She looked at me with relief in her eyes and said, "Welcome Princess Amber."
She noted the confusion and shock on my face but continued on, "I am sorry that you had to witness your kingdom destroyed, but there is nothing i can do as of now, too much damage has happened. But from now onwards you will stay here at Clarix the school of magic. Ah i almost forgot, i am the headmistress of the school and your new Guardian."
My eyes grew wide at the sudden change in my future.
"This is your new home."
