Erin's pov

"Hi mama!" I greeted as I walked down the stairs to see my mom making breakfast. "Good morning baby." She replied while she flipped a perfect, round pancake. "Josh is coming over to see you today, like he does almost every day. You know it'd be cute if you two were mates." She smiled.

Confusion was written across my face. "What's a ma-" I was cut off to the door opening and me being tackled by the alphas son, Josh. I giggled. "Hi josh!" He smiled and got off of me. "Hi." He replied. "Whatcha doing?" He asked curiously. "Mama was about to tell me what a mate was." She looked at me raising an eyebrow then laughed.

"Well a mate is like your soul mate or someone you're destined to be with. For instance, your father and I are mates." She explained. "How do you know you're mates?" I questioned. "You'll just know." Alice voice spoke up. I turned around to see Josh's mom, the luna.

"Hi mom." He greeted. I just waved. "So, how's the little alpha and beta?" She asked as she ruffled my dark, brown hair. "Good." We both replied at the same time, causing us both to laugh. "Mama, how is it like to be beta?" I asked my mom, who was being quiet this whole time. "Huh? Oh, it's nice. I'm actually proud to be beta."

I was about to ask her another question when a pack warrior came in. "Luna, beta, there's rouges." He said, trying to catch his breath. My eyes widened. Rouges? Here?

"Erin, you and Josh-" Mother was cut off by a Rouge jumping in through a window and biting into her neck. I paused. "M-mama?" I was about to walk over to her when the rouge looked at josh and was about to pounce. "No! Josh!" Then his mother got in front of him and took the hit, just as the alpha came in.

He shifted and pounced on the rouge, not wasting anytime to bite deeply into its neck. Josh hugged me close as we watched all of this happen.

The alpha shifted back and turned to his mate lifeless on the ground. He then slowly turned towards me and Josh. "This. This wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for you two. It's all your fault!" He got ready to pounce while Josh pushed me away and the alpha punched his face over and over again until Josh stopped moving.

Tears were streaming down my face nonstop. I quickly ran out of there, passing by pack members who were now dead. I ran even faster, I needed to get out of there. I passed the border and stopped by a cave.

Tired, I layer down and cried. Why? Why did this have to happen?

I knew that now, I'm on my own. I have to fend for myself. Using all the strength I had left, I shifted.
