Chapter 4
Graduation. It was already time to get kicked out, find a good college, get a degree, get a job, buy a house, and have a family. The year went by way to fast, and honestly, I was so scared for the future. I knew what I wanted to be, a Marine Bioligist. But growing up was terrifying.
*Flashback*
"Mom, can I please go outside and play!" I put my best puppy-dog face as I begged my mom. "No Morgan! You're only four!" "But, I want a new friend in the neighborhood!" She never let me play outside alone, even if it was just across the street or even in my front yard. "No, and that's my final answer!" She screamed at me as she walked away. I pouted and ran to my room. I ran to my window to stare at the boy about my age playing in the sandbox. An idea popped up in my little devious mind. I crept out of my room and out the back door, my mom was in the kitchen, by the front door, so she wouldn't see me. I raced to the front yard and across the street. I did a long jump into the sandbox and sand sprayed all over the boy. "HI!" I said with a huge grin on my face, "You got sand all over me and ruined my castle," he had a sad look on his face as he stared at my shoes. "Oh, I'm sorry, can I help you make a new one?" "Uhmm..." "Colten, it's time for dinner! Come in!" "Maybe next time," he told me as I watched the little blonde boy run into his front door.
**********
I let out a quiet sigh as I remembered by best friend from when I was little.
I looked to my left. and there he was, the little blonde boy I remembered from my childhood, that was now grown-up. He was one of the popular kids now, he played hockey and soccer. He still had the same blonde hair, he had barely even changed. Every where he went he made girls turn their heads, yes, I admit, he was very good-looking and I have had a little crush on him since I first sw him.
I forgot I'd been staring for so long and finally blinked. He had a smirk on his face as he was watching his girlfriend's graduation speech. Yep. Girlfriend. I didn't mind her, she was really pretty, really good shape, smart, and head cheerleader. I didn't talk to her much, only a few times, but mostly to ask for a math question. She seemed really nice, but I was extremely jealous.
Finally I turned my attention to the speeches, where, Blake (Colten's girlfriend) was just finishing. It was now one of the popular-funny guys to do his speech. "I want to thank Google, Wikipedia, and whoever the hell invented copy and paste. Thank you." Everyone bursted out laughing, although we've all seen that one. It was funny coming from him. He was one of my friend's, he sat beside me in French, and I'm telling you, if you were having the worst day in your life. He would change it.
I didn't write a graduation speech, I wasn't really the kind of person too, I was shy and could be awkward.
Everyone was done their speeches. and it was time to get our diploma's. "Doniree Hartford, Rochelle Diaz, Jenna Michalchuk, Marshall Wilson, Connor Onstein, Desiree Webber, Morgan O'Rourke...." That was me. I slowly started walking to the stage, trying my hardest not to let my clumsiness take over. I reached the top of the stairs, shook my principal's hand, and put my little string on my cap to the other side if it, and he handed me my diploma. We all exchanged smiles and waited for the last person to come join us. The principal started his boring speech about us growing up and how he's so proud. He paused and let out an inspiring "...Have a great future kids!" Everyone yelled, screamed, whistled, clapped, and laughed as we all threw our caps in the air.
It took me awhile to find my mom, but I succeeded. She gave me a sad but 'I'm really proud of you' kind of smile and hugged me. All the graduates took pictures together, it was actually pretty fun, but I felt like crying because I knew I probably wouldn't see these kids ever again. Unless we went to the same college or something, or bumped into each other at a grocery store.
We spent about two more hours there, visiting and saying our good-bye's. My mom, Doniree, and I, jammed into the car and drove to my house. We had to get to bed soon, we were going to have an early morning. Since the three of us were leaving to Quebec tomorrow morning for the whole summer.
