"Hey Cupcake, that's how you lose," Jake said as he shoved me, making me let go of my ps pad. "No fair bastard!" I screamed in his ear and jumped on him... Meet Jake Riles. He's my... Well, best friend. I think. We'd been so close since forever and I really liked him a lot... Like a best friend of course. "Relax Sweetheart, you can't really hurt me anyway," he said as he chuckled and pushed me away. Don't get it wrong. We were just best friends. The nicknames were just for fun... Then my phone rang and he grabbed it from the table before I could reach for it. "Hey, Sir Romeo is calling cause Juliet's not yet at her balcony as was scheduled,"  Jake said and laughed. I snatched the phone from his hand and picked up the call from my boyfriend, Ryan Fox. "Hey Mia... I assume you remember we were supposed to meet up for pizza today?" He asked and I cussed under my breath. I put the phone far from my mouth and whispered over to Jake, " I freaking forgot all about it!" Jake clapped his hand over his face and shook his head then did his go ahead sign. "Of course baby. How could I possibly forget? It's in thirty minutes, right?" I guessed as I glanced at the clock and it was almost seven. "Yeah. About an hour ago. I've been  waiting for you over here for two whole hours. Two hours of waiting for someone who I should have as well known wasn't going to show up. Lemme guess, you were so busy with your Romeo best friend that you forgot your date with me?" He asked, using every single guilt point. That's Ryan. He's the best guy at making anyone feel guilty about anything. Even the smallest mistake. He once made me feel like I'd commited murder and I had just forgotten to call him after I was out from some party. "Whoa! That's what your jackass boyfriend thinks of me? Why you still with him anyway?" Jake whisper-shouted and we started fighting for my phone till I had to bite his hands off. "Yeah... I guessed right. You should know that I'm leaving tomorrow after school. Thanks a lot for your support. I don't think this is working out, really, so... That's it for us," he said and an awkward silence followed. Wait, did Ryan just break up with me or did I just get his words wrong? I looked at Jake but he was just as confused as I was about it. "Wait... You're breaking up with me over the phone? We have been together for two whole freaking years... Plus, you have no reason for just abruptly giving this up. Tell me I just heard you wrong cause if it's all true, then I guess you were not really different from what people said you actually were.So what am I supposed to do? Just accept it and..." I started off in my never-ending complaints. "I guess so. All those two years were lies... I'm sorry but-" he started off but he was also cut short by Jake. "This is all because of Talya, isn't it? I knew it you.... You..." I hung up before things got worse. I fell on the couch and rested my head between my hands. "Who's Talya? Why is life so unfair?" I asked more of to myself but Jake sat beside me and put my head on his shoulder. "There, there Mia... Cry it all out," he comforted me as he pat my back. "Just tell me who the hell Talya is instead of making me feel worse," I said. "Well, she's just some cling ex in some other school. I'd been with her for a couple of days and when things got rough, I had to let go. Then when Ryan met her through me, he hit it off with her. Yeah," "How long have you known this, exactly?" "Just a couple of months. Just six months," " Six months? You couldn't even at least say something?" "It's cause he said he'd blackmail me and make you hate me. I never want to lose you, Mia," "Well you just did. You should've known nothing can make me ever hate you apart from yourself when you hurt me," "Then I'm sorry," "That sorry won't bring back my boyfriend. Tip. He's leaving tomorrow! Thanks for nothing," "I'm sorry. I'll make it up to you, I promise," he said and gave me those sweet puppy eyes that I fell for every single time apart from that time... I was past infuriation. "Oh yeah, what will you do, huh?" I asked amid tears and looked him straight in the eye. He knew how much I loved Ryan. He'd been my crush since forever and had been such an amazing boyfriend despite all what people said about him. Silence. Jake didn't reply. His gaze just fell to the floor. "That's what I thought too," I concluded and stood. I walked over to the door and gave my actions a last thought. No. He should've seen that coming when he tried to hide anything from me. His defense wasn't even valid... Ugh! I left in such fury and went back home, praying how I'd wake up in the morning and that would all be just a dream. I mean, I loved Jake. He'd been there for me but covering up for someone that I loved from hurting me said different about what he felt. Yes, I loved Ryan and all but cheating on me was beyond that. It didn't even sound to me anymore like Talya was actually dating him too. Ryan might have been a bad boy and all but he had his limits. He could never play his girlfriend, not me, to be precise. Besides, Jake also knew how fragile I was... Why would he even... I just let my music put me to sleep.
