SHATTERED
Lacey Anne Williams' life had always been perfect. She had the perfect parents who were only moderately interested in her school life and mostly agree to what she wanted to do.
They had respectable jobs, owned several houses and on a whole were local celebrities.
Lacey's life was every American girl's dream; she had the perfect shapely body, and perfectly tanned skin, which, thanks to genetics didn't require any maintenance. She was top cheerleader and head of her squad, she even dated the star quarter back that either didn't cheat or was extremely good at hiding it.
Her adorable little sister Sally of only five wanted to be just like her when she grew up.
Little did she know that all that was about to change in the blink of an eye: shattered.
Chapter 1-
I woke to the sound of my alarm clock going off and Mary's (our cook) delicious smelling pancakes. I picked clothes at random from my closet; I showered then blow dried my hair.
My hair was chestnut by default but occasionally my mom would persuade me to "enhance" my looks by putting in blonde streaks which, at best, made me my hair look fake (the things we do for love).
The best feature I had were my eyes, hazel, with green and blue flecks, people always stop and ask me if i was wearing contacts. I swiped on a little mascara, which made my eyes pop even more, no eyeliner though I didn't want to overdo it and a bit of lipgloss.
It was friday, it was the best day of the week not only was the weekend starting but it was September 10th. Your probably wonderin why im stressing on September 10th, well this was the day i made head cheerleader AND was asked by Dan Peterson to be his girlfriend it was our one year anniversary today;
I didn't want to look too made up like I was trying too hard. I stepped back a bit to scrutinize my look,
I had on a black tight jeans, and a plain white tee and a red converse, yeah i think it looked simple enough.
Just then a text came in from my best friend Julie Roberts "Lace, if ya dnt com now, we gonna be l8e." I sighed; sometimes she was just a bit too impatient for my liking.
She'd been my friend for 2 years now and somewhere along the way we'd become BFFs.
But hey I'm not complaining, she was one of the few people I could trust with EVERYTHING. She's completely gorgeous with baby blue eyes and blonde hair that she usually curls, she was on the skinny side but it's not like she deliberately tries to be.
I grabbed the rest of my things and headed downstairs, to the kitchen in hopes of grabbing a few bites to eat before heading to school.
"Mornin' Mary" I said cheerfully, she was a plumpish Spanish middle aged woman who was always cheerful and smiling.
"Mornin' Senorita Lacey, you have breakfast before you go, yes?" She said hopefully, she had always worried about be because I rarely had time to eat breakfast in the mornings and she said it wasn't healthy.
"To go, thanks." She nodded enthusiastically and set about preparing it. I looked around and noticed how quiet the place was except for Mary's humming. "sooo..." I started
...............silence............
"uhhh.... Mom and Dad left already?" I struggled to find something to say to break the silence.
"Si" she replied, oblivious to the awkward silence that ensued.
Mary was our only worker left; mom had laid them all off previously claiming we could do the work ourselves.
In reality Dad was always late coming home so she did most of it and I helped out. He worked in some investing company and mom was in a lot of charity services but recently started working at a bank.
When Mary was done she handed it to me and wished me luck at school, (odd choice of words if you ask me) but i squashed the comment popping up and nodded my thanks.
I headed out to my car and got in (Julie and I took turns driving to school because it was always a chore to find a parking space and we both hated it).
It was 8am now and school started in 15 minutes but luckily I only lived 10 minutes away so it was no big deal. Julie lived conveniently 2 blocks away so I called her to see if she was ready yet.
"hello?" she said
"hey Julz, it's me, you ready?" I asked, sometimes she hurried me up and wasn't even ready herself...
"Oooomigosh, I'm soooooooooo, sorry, I like, totally forgot to tell you I got a ride with someone else."
I paused a bit, that's so weird she always rides with me, and she doesn't ride with strangers. But oh well, I shrugged it off and told her I'd see her later.
I saw a parking spot and someone else saw it too, we did a little mini race for it, and I won (note to self, remember to thank dad again for buying me customized porsche for my 16th birthday, i was born in June on the 14th) I got out and stuck my tongue out at the girl, she glared at me and drove on continuing her search for a parking spot.
I looked around trying to spot Julie and then I heard her unmistakable laughter, she had a tendency to laugh really loud.
I turned to see she was on the other side of the parking lot trying to get out of a car but the person kept pulling her back in.
She was laughing a lot so I figured it was harmless fun she turned around and kissed the person, from here it looked really intense but I couldn't see much because I was so far away.
When did she get a boyfriend? I made a mental note to arrange a sleepover so she could spill all and made my way over to greet her.
As i got closer i got the impression that i knew the car from somewhere,
but i shrugged it off,
I was probably just nervous about what Dan would give me today.
I couldn't shake the feeling that today would be the start of something that would forever change my life, for better, or for worse, only time could tell....
