They haven't put me in that straight jacket since Will took it off of me, fortunately, but ever since I've been injected everyone seems to keep their distance. I haven't seen Will in a couple days, so I assumed he's been hiding out in the training room, which I haven't been allowed to go to. Hell, I haven't even been out of my room since the injection.
Marshall must have snuck into my room because I almost had a heart attack when he sneezed.
I turned around, wide-eyed and holding a hand over my heart.
"Sorry." He muttered while rubbing his nose. He continued to watch me for about 20 minutes, and then finally he pulled out a magazine from my little stack of books on the table in the corner.
"So...are you just going to stand there for the rest of the day or...?" I eyed him restlessly and he looked up from his reading.
"How you can stand to read this junk, I don't know." Marshall dropped the magazine back down on the pile and walked to the door. He held it open with one hand and turned towards me, "You comin'?"
I raised one of my eyebrows and leaped off the bed. Marshall held the door for me as I ducked under his arm and into the hallway.
Marshall always seems to trust me more than anyone else in this place, so he usually lets me walk in peace down the hall, but still trails closely after. I headed to the training room and grabbed a sports tank and a pair of running shorts from the rack on the wall.
"Don't get into trouble, now," Marshall warned before leaving me to the treadmills. I hopped on one and started running. I closed my eyes and let my mind drift off.
Once I hit thirty minutes, I got a dull ache in my side and stepped off the treadmill. Wiping off sweat from my forehead, I headed to the showers.
I let the warm water refresh my sweaty body and sang a little melody. I usually make up little songs here and there, and the guards don't seem to mind. They haven't told me otherwise.
I turned the shower off and reached for my towel...which wasn't there. I'd forgotten to get one before I went into the bathroom.
"Shit."
Luckily, there was no one else in the showers, not that there would be anyway because the guards were doing their best to avoid me for whatever reason. I tiptoed out onto the cool tile floor and looked around for a towel before anyone wandered in here. I made my way sneakily over to the bathroom door and peeked out the little glass window into the training room. No one.
The towels were right outside the door on a grey rack. If I just made it about three steps out the door then I could reach them.
Very stealthily, I opened the door and slowly stuck my head out. Still no one.
I turned towards the rack and bounded out the door as fast as I could. The grey towel slid quickly around my body as I began to make a mad dash back to the bathroom, but then my eye was caught on something.
Something bright and blinding filled my vision as I bent down and peeked under the rack of towels. A piece of something was on the ground and was bigger than my hand when I picked it up.
I looked at it. Something in it stared back at me. Puzzled, I turned the object around in my hands and cursed under my breath when a sharp end cut my thumb. Blood trickled out, but my attention was still on the strange object. The other side of it was just black, smooth wood or something, but the front of it was a mystery in itself.
Something in it stared back at me. It looked like a person, so I supposed it was a portrait of someone - a young girl...probably in her mid teens. She had earthy brown hair, like mine, full lips and a patch of freckles that lightly dotted her smooth cheeks and small nose. Her skin was flawless, and I couldn't help but be jealous. But her eyes were something that I have never seen before. For one thing, they were incredibly big. Thick lashes lined bright green irises. The green was what I'd dreamed what fresh spring grass looked like on a warm day...or at least I think it was a drea-
"A?"
The voice startled me and I jumped around, clutching the object behind my back and holding my towel in place with the other. Will stood in front of me. He was wearing his normal black uniform, but his pants had small green stains around the knee area.
I guess he noticed me checking him out, and he started to explain, "I was, uh....outside....doing some yard work for Marshall." His body tensed up when he said the word outside, as if he was afraid I would start freaking out or something. "What are you...doing?" He looked me over, and I suddenly remembered that all I had on was a towel.
"Oh god..." I muttered to myself as my face turned all 50 shades of red. Will cleared his throat and stepped towards me. "Uhh...hi?" I gave a small wave as he came even closer to me. I backed against the wall and cursed under my breath again as I was stabbed for a second time by the object.
Will looked around me, then stepped back and held out his hand. "Give."
I rolled my eyes and handed him the damn thing.
"Where did you get this?" Will said, and I could hear a hint of nervousness in his voice.
"Uh...I..." I looked around the room. Will stepped up to me and held my chin, searching my eyes. Then he let go and grabbed my arm tightly.
"You don't tell anyone about this, alright? Unless you want to end up in that straight jacket for the next three months." His tone was demanding, but his brown eyes were soft and full of worry.
"Uh, alright." I moved back and shrugged his words off. I felt his eyes on me as I walked back to the bathroom.
"A?" Will asked. I turned around and faced him. He quickly broke eye contact and looked at the floor. "Next time you should probably get dressed before leaving the bathroom.."
I felt my face get red again, and I nodded and quickly escaped the training room.
