Chapter 7

“Love… Ally?” Austin thought to himself, walking towards the cafeteria. The words had continued to cloud through his mind from the moment he awoke from bed, and now half way his day, they were practically carved in him. The day before, he had almost been close to sharing a kiss with the pretty dark haired girl and now he shook at the thought of it.

How can I be so stupid, he whispered mentally kicking himself, I’m an idiot to think I actually feel something towards that… whatever she is. Yesterday had been a fanatical day for him and Austin blamed it on all the tension built up on him. He dealed with failing classes, parents who rarely attend him, a whiny girlfriend and nerds whose faces were still burned onto his mind. But still, he kept telling himself, when I think about her, It’s different.

“Austin, dude, are you okay?” he heard his best friend, Dallas, ask. His hand on his shoulder and a worried expression on his face. “You’ve been standing here for about five minutes”

Austin gave him a puzzling look before faking a small smirk.  “Yeah, just thinking you know.”

Dallas gave him a suspicious look before nodding his head and walking towards their group again.

“Austy!” cried out Tilly, jumping up and wrapping her arms around him. “I missed you baby”

He forced himself to bend down and place a kiss on her lips as if she was the one he really wanted. “I missed you too, sexy”

They both took a seat and as they all begun to talk in between them, Austin’s gaze landed on Ally’s table.

There sitting were Dez and Trish, Trish laughing at a weird faced Dez.

“Where’s Ally?” the thought scurried through his head, but he pushed it away and continued to talk to his friends.

‘’Trish! Dez!’’ Austin shouted as he ran after a tall ginger and a short Latina.

Both turned their head at him and looked at him with wide eyes. ‘’you know our names?” asked Dez, his jaw a bit dropped.

Austin sighted as he pulled them into a nearby janitor’s closet. ‘’where’s Ally?”

Trish sent him a dirty look while Dez just shrugged his shoulders. ‘’I don’t know, probably at home. Now if you don’t mind, I have to head down to Biology’’

He opened the door and walked out but before Trish could follow, Austin grabbed her arms and pulled her back. ‘’Trish, I know you know’’

She pushed his hand away and scowled. ‘’like you care, you bully her every change you get’’

Austin knew she had a point, but in that moment he was losing it. The thought of Ally being hurt or who know what made his palms sweat. He didn’t understand why cared so much, heck he had never cared that much before but not he desperately needed answers.

‘’Please, Trish, just tell me where she is’’ he pleaded in a low mumble.

Trish took a deep breath, hearing his caring voice. ‘’she’s at home with Issac’’

He raised an eyebrow. ‘’why?”

Trish bit her lip and ran her fingers through her dark curls. ‘’erg, she’s …. Sick’’

Austin rolled his eyes. ‘’I saw her yesterday and she was fine’’

Trish pushed him aside and opened the janitor closet’s door. ‘’If you want answers so badly, ask her tomorrow’’ was all she said before walking away.

Austin knew she was right but he wasn’t waiting until the next day to ask her. No, he needed to know in that exact moment.

So he walked out of the closet but soon bumped into another figure.

Dallas smirked at his friend. ‘’hey, dude, we still on for hoops after school today?”

He growled. ‘’yeah, but I might be a bit late’’ he initiated to walk away, but was stopped by Dallas’ voice.

‘’dude, we don’t get to hang out anymore’’ Austin knew he was right, but Ally was more important than him.

‘’I know,’’ he said, walking away again. ‘’I never said I wasn’t gonna show’’

And with that, he got into his car and drove to Ally’s house.

It was a wonder how he found the Dawson home within minutes. He hadn’t been there since he was at least 13 and looking at it brought back memories. He remembered playing tag with Ally in her backyard while her dad was at work and arguing with her about what superhero was better. He still didn’t understand why he wasn’t allowed to go there when her dad was.

He exited out of the car and knocked gently on the red door. It opened after a minute and his jaw dropped completely at the sight of Ally.

‘’Ally…. What happened to you?” he asked flabbergasted. He couldn’t see her entire figure but from what he saw, it seemed very agonizing. Her right eye was a dark purple color; her lip was torn into two. A light bruise was visible on her cheek and welts were seen throughout her arms thanks to her simple tank top. Her eyes seemed close to tears but widen at the view of him.

‘’Austin,’’ she whispered glimpsing between him and something inside the house. ‘’what are you doing here?” she asked, nervously.

He walked closer to her, but she took a step back. ‘’Ally, did your dad do –‘’

He was cut off. ‘’please, Austin not now!” she whispered loudly. ‘’we’ll talk about it later but just please…. Go home’’

He shook his head. ‘’No, Ally, I’m not leaving until you tell me what happened’’

A loud groan was heard from inside and Ally began to panic. ‘’it’s not your choice anymore,’’ she said pushing him towards his car. ‘’I have to go now. Thanks anyway’’

Austin watched with confusion as Ally ran back into her house and shut the door closed. What if her father had actually done that to her? No, he thought to himself, there had to be another explanation; a father would never do something like that. But either way, he was going to find out what happened to her and if Issac was okay.  Austin wasn’t going to let just anyone hurt the people he loved.
