The kiss list

Ch1.

(Hayley’s POV)

Ever since I can remember, I’ve always been one of the boys, I played sports at Break, I went on boot camps, I never wore dresses, and the list goes on and on. The other girls always greased me off when they saw me in the corridor at my locker or down the street at central. The boys however just treated me like one of their own, when they see me they wave at me or give me a hug, I even spar with them occasionally! But you know when sometimes you just wish you were something you’re not? I know most of the girls in my class (10BLUE) hate their bodies. I don’t see why though!  They’re all tall, Tanned, skinny as hell, Beach blonde and busty as f*ck Most are Double D’s; I mean, they have the perfect Arse to Tits ratio! But even through all of that make up and fake tan I see just how stupid these girls are, Sometimes I wonder if that bleach of theirs seeped into their brain… Wouldn’t surprise me actually, with the amount of that toxic shit they use!

Whereas I’m small, slightly under average weight, black and blonde hair, Bright sky blue eyes, my cheek bones are shard and my chin pointed. I have barley there boobs and my arse is alright I guess.  I’m just average, not a stand out, not popular, not a loner. Just a background person; I go un-noticed, just the way I like it. I stay out of other peoples’ way and well most of the time they stay out of mine.

I woke to the sound of my alarm blaring out a beeping noise that made me want to roll over and just go back to sleep. But I knew I had to get to school early today for football training. I glanced over at my watch 5:02am, that gave me 1 hour and 30 minutes to get ready and 28 minutes to walk to the oval 9 blocks down the road. I kicked my heavy red satin quilt cover off of my warm body; I walked over to my dresser and grabbed a hair brush, I began the long process of brushing the knots out of my matted black and blonde curls. Well over 20 minutes later I placed the brush back down on the table and walked over to my wardrobe. I pulled open the mirrored doors and glanced inside, I had about 4 T-Shirts, 6 Pairs of Trackies, 2 pairs of shorts, a jumper and my school uniform. I quietly laughed to myself in wonder to why I had so little clothing. I made a mental note to get some more clothes off Michael soon; I stuffed my uniform into my sports bag and I grabbed a pair of Trackies with my Flight Path singlet. I threw them on quickly and tied my hair back into a loose pony tail at the nape of my porcelain colored neck.  I glanced into the mirrored, flashed a quick smile and walked out of my room and down the spiral stair case into the kitchen….

“Oi Hayley! You stupid girl get the f*ck over here and help your dying mother!” My paraplegic mother screeched from her bedroom.

I sighed and muttered under my breath, ‘you’re not dying you stupid cow.’ I walked down the corridor and into her dark room; I flicked on the light switch and heard my mother hiss at the sudden brightness. I snickered and stepped across the piles of clothing on the floor to the foot of her bed, I tore the covers away from her bony body and then walked around to her and picked her up, ‘she can’t have weighed more than 30 kilos,’ I set her down lightly into her automated wheel chair and fastened the belt around her legs keeping them in place. I’d been doing this morning routine every day for 6 years.

When I was nine, I remember I had finished school and I had gone to wait on the playground for mum, (as I called her back in the day) I sat there and I waited and waited and waited, but she never came; It had begun to get darker and I was shaking with both fear and loss of the heat that was keeping me awake, I had no idea that it was almost 7:30 at night, I thought it had just been a few hours. With the sun setting fast I had decided to try and find my way home, I knew in the back of my mind that it was a bad Idea but I ignored the feeling and walked on struggling in the harsh winds that had recently come down from the mountains with the storm that was soon to come, I walked until after dark and then I was terrified of every slight noise or shadow that moved, Now what did I do, you might ask, well I started to cry and I curled up in a ball on the side of the road, soon enough I had fallen asleep. I woke up to the sound of a gentle voice asking me who I was, why wasn’t I at home and was I cold. All I did was stare at the ground and nod. The kind old man brought me out a blanket, wrapped it around me and sat next to me and dialed three 0’s into his phone and pressed the little green telephone button. I had no Idea what he was doing but I liked him, I had the feeling that he wouldn’t hurt me, I leaned into him and rested my small head on his shoulders and dozed off to sleep again, sooner than later I heard the sirens of a police car. I opened my eyes and stood up to welcome the police man in a big hug; I knew for sure that I would be safe with him. I remember him leaning down to me and asking if my name was ‘Hayley Smithes’ I nodded for yes, he instantly sigh and continued to look at the ground.

“I need you to come with me Hayley, We can go see your mummy, would you like to say thank you very much to Michael Toddbrookes for finding you and keeping you safe? “ The tall man dressed in blue asked me.

“Thank you Mister Toddbrookes” I whispered and hugged his legs. He patted me on the head, quietly said, see you soon little one and walked back over to his car, He climbed in and started up the spluttering engine and drove off and away from us.

I was left standing there in my summer school dress shaking with my ‘Dora the Explorer’ bag on my back. The man in blue laughed at how small I was as he lifted me into his car and buckled me up. I smiled a grin from ear to ear at the excitement of being in a real life police car. He smirked and turned on the sirens, we sped off down the road; I undoubtedly let out a small squeal and clung to the seat.

Less than twenty minutes we pulled up to a huge white building, I was confused as hell, I turned to the officer and asked,

“Where are we…? This isn’t home! Where’s mummy!?”

I began to freak out and I tore away from the police man’s hold and ran into the building. A huge, muscular man in black stepped in front of me and I ran straight into his legs. He grabbed me by the shoulders just as the officer ran into the building.

I cried out a plea for my mother and dropped to the ground crying, out of the man’s hands and away from the police man’s grip. I didn’t feel safe anymore, I was terrified. A woman came over to me and cooed into my hair with a thick accent I had never heard before as she reached out to pat it, ‘It’s okay honey, and do you wanna come and see your mother?’ I nodded fiercely and the African/ American woman whose name I now knew was Sandy, Picked me u and walked me into a room full of beeps and buzzes. A woman lay still, looking as pale as a ghost close to death. I instantly cried and began to have a panic attack. I stopped breathing and slowly the room went black.

(A/N: So basically everyone this is just a teaser chapter, um, so I sort of stopped it half way through one of Hayley’s memories and it will be finished off in the next chapter and you’ve gotten a basic idea of what Hayley looks like. Yes she’s a very emotional character. But that will tie in well when you read future chapters.)

But until then, much love Always, Courtney <3
