Standing in front of the place that was to be her home, Rae was feeling nervous about the task set in front of her. Several years have passed since Rae and her mother have been outside into the human realm.  Her mother as she never was still, brisked about in the entryway setting down her hands here and there trying to get a feel for thier new home. The servants buzzed about sweeping and dusting the windows and floors,  some even brought flowers to put in vases. She shook her head and sighed. Rae knew that they where nervous. They were scared that her mother, Diva as she liked to call herself, was going to snap at any moment and eat them alive. It happened once.  When Rae had first made another like her. He was quite a catch, handsome but quiet. His name was Angelo,  and he was a musician,  he played the piano for her every day when he was alive. Diva asked him to play a piece for her one day, and killed him because he refused to play for her. Rae knew that she loved Angelo at the time, and still mourns his death, but she must move forward, because that is what Angelo would want.

Rae stopped thinking about the past to look at her mother. Tall and skinny, her mother stood over Rae with no difficulty, hell, anyone who was taller than 5 foot 4 inches could stand over Rae. Like her mother though, they both had the same hair color- a light brown color that got fizzy in the heat. Not even becoming a vampire could stop her hair. She tried to calm it this morning,  she really did. But nothing was going to stop her hair unless she cut like a boys. 'now that is an idea.' Rae thought.  She would like a short cut. It would put her apart from society.  Everyone has long flowing hair to their hips. Perfect bodies. ' Blah! Who wants and flat body when curves hold more love? Not to mention food' she thought hungrily.  Rae didn't have the "normal" body size of the girls or woman in this age, she grew up when food was plentiful and body size didn't matter. Now all people thought was how to get thinner. Blah. She wasn't big like the people who joked about her size thought she was, she was almost all muscle. She ate healthy, but also liked to indulge herself once in a while.

"Dear! would you come here for a minute? " Rae flinched at the "Dear". Her mother had called Pa that.  Now she could only call Rae.  Still affected by her mother's choice of words, Rae went to her maker and found her in the soon to be library.  Sitting cross-legged on the floor, her mother looked to be about Rae's age, or maybe younger. As soon as Rae was in the door, her mother, Diva, stood up and said in an almost too demanding tone; "I want fresh blood. Bring it to me." Rae sighed and went towards her mother."I am sorry but this is new territory. The scouts have not found any suitable people to be brought under the Veil."  The Veil is what protected humans from being devoured by vampires and fairy tale kin alike. Only people who would not be missed or will not have an important role in history where brought under. Under the darkness that was the Veil. Rae knew that there were in fact people to be brought under here. She could almost hear thier heart beats call out to her. Her mother though trusted Rae and brought her into an embrace. Rae knew what was about to happen. It didn't hurt this time though. Not like it had the first time when her mother turned her.  In that time and in that place Rae changed from an ordinary 17 year old girl into to one of the Veil. A monster.
