The two of them continued on with the week, pretending that night never happened. It was not easy to do. Every second Emma Jane was with Natalie she wanted to kiss her again. To feel her warmth.
Finally it was Friday night and EJ wanted to ask Natalie if she wanted to spend the night, so they could talk. That's it. Just talk. Natalie agreed. Nat went home with EJ and again, they were home alone.
They sat in EJ's room and did their homework. "So, uh, about Monday..." Natalie said.
Emma Jane's heart skipped a beat. "Yeah?" she asked.
"I..., I wanted to say that I liked it. No, that is the wrong word to use, um. I enjoyed it. No! That is wrong too..." she said.
Emma Jane couldn't stand it anymore. She leaned in and kissed Natalie again. Natalie kissed back. The two sat there, in each other's embrace for a long time. They didn't stop until they heard someone come in the house.
" Anyone home? " Mrs. Hurt called.
"Y-yeah, mom! Nat and I are up here." EJ called back down.
The two girls looked at each other and grinned from ear to ear.
"Wanna go again?" Natalie asked.
"Is that even a fair question?" Emma Jane responded and the two went make at it.Later that night, while the girls were laying side by side, true to fall asleep, a thought came to Natalie's mind. "Hey, Emma?" she asked "You still up?"
Emma Jane moaned in response.
"What are we going to do?" Natalie asked. She turned her head towards EJ.
"About?" Emma Jane said.
"Us. About the kisses. I... I want to be with you, EJ, but our parents and the school..., we would be hated by the entire town." worry crept it's way into her voice.
Emma Jane thought for a second. "I don't know..., we could date in secret. Not tell anyone." she said.
"And do that for the rest of our lives?, Nat asked.
" If we have to. Natalie, I love you. And not just like a friend. And if I have to be kicked out of my home to be with you then so be it. I love you to the end of the rainbow and back. "Emma Jane said.
Natalie laughed." Rainbow? Really? That is so cheesy."
EJ shrugged." Well, we are gay now... I think..., besides, you are missing my point. Rainbows don't have an end. I thought it was romantic. "
Natalie leaned in and kissed EJ's forhea. "It is. That is why I love you to the end of the rainbow."
