T.W. : death, sadness.

Roman's POV

I always knew he loved music. Ever since we had gone to the school dance together months ago. He always seemed so calm when music was on, he forgot about everything going on, everything that bothered him.

He always wrote the lyrics, always asked me to compose the music to it.

What I would give for that to happen again.

It has been a month since we lost Virgil, a drunk driver came down the road as he was crossing and they didn't see him, he got hit and died a few days later, after being stuck in a coma.

Patton says it's for the best, that he died so soon after being hit, at least he wasn't suffering anymore, Logan says it's okay to grieve. I say it isn't fair.

I wish I had gone with him that night. I wish I hadn't pushed him away that day.

We got into a terrible argument, and I told him that I hated him. Why did I say that, he died thinking I hated him. I never hated him. I loved him. I still do.

Patton and Logan came around to my house and we just sat thinking about everything the 4 of us had done together. We decided maybe we should go to his house and offer his parents some support, even though it was hurting us, it must be killing them.

We went to their house and we were allowed access to his room. We looked around and I found his music book, our book, I opened it and looked at the first piece we had every done together. I felt my eyes fill with tears remembering the night we spent hours working on it.

"Rooooomaaaaannnnn" he complained

"Yes love?" I turned to him, he was laying upside-down, hanging off his bed. I smiled at him as he pouted.

"I need lyrical help"

"What lyrics do you have so far?"

"Look around

There's no one but you and me

Right here and now..."

"The way it was meant to be" I added to the end without even thinking too much about it.

He grinned and wrote it down, finishing the song shortly after.

He handed me the lyrics and I read through them turning to the guitar behind me playing a few notes and chords, allowing me to make a nice melody to it, he went to the keyboard and turned on the effects with the electric guitar part and joined in. Shortly after we had finished the music to it and we really enjoyed how it turned out.

~ End of Flashback ~

I felt the tears falling down my face as I looked through the book. Patton came over to me and hugged me, encouraging Logan to do the same.

We stood there for a little while before I composed myself enough to finish looking through the book.

My eyes fell upon a new song I didn't know, I scanned over the lyrics and at the end I saw a note "Roman, please compose a sound for this, I wanted to sing it to you on our 1 year anniversary, but I got hit by the car. It was written for you because I love you so much. I'm sorry. I love you. <3"

I knew his parents had bought this to him at the hospital at his request, he must have written the note there and they must have returned the book just after he died.

I looked back over the lyrics

"I love it when you just don't care
I love it when you dance like there's nobody there
So when it gets hard, don't be afraid
We don't care what the people say
I love it when you don't take "no"
I love it when you do what you want cause you just said so
Let them all go home, we're out late
We don't care what the people say

We don't have to be ordinary
Make your best mistakes
'Cause we don't have the time to be sorry
So, baby, be the life of the party
I'm telling you, take your shot it might be scary
Hearts are gonna break
'Cause we don't have the time to be sorry
So, baby, be the life of the party

Together we can just let go
Pretend like there's no one else here that we know
Slow dance for the love as the club track plays
We don't care what the people say

We don't have to be ordinary
Make your best mistakes
'Cause we don't have the time to be sorry
So baby be the life of the party
I'm telling you, take your shot it might be scary
Hearts are gonna break
'Cause we don't have the time to be sorry
So, baby, be the life of the party

Come out tonight, come out tonight
There's no one standing in your way
Come out tonight, come out tonight
We don't care what them people say
We don't care what them people say

We don't have to be ordinary
Make your best mistakes
'Cause we don't have the time to be sorry
So, baby, be the life of the party
I'm telling you, take your shot it might be scary
Hearts are gonna break
'Cause we don't have the time to be sorry
So, baby, be the life of the party

Yeah, yeah, yeah
Life of the party
So don't let them keep you down
Oh you know you can't give up
'Cause we don't have the time to be sorry
So, baby, be the life of the party"

I moved over to the keyboard and played a few notes, hoping they made the song turn out just right.

I played through the song a few times, the last time getting it to sound just right. I wrote down the notes and I recorded it.

Patton and Logan enjoyed how It sounded and I knew his parents would want it playing at his funeral.

We went to talk to them about the sing and they agreed that it would work, I smiled and thanked them, asking them if there was anything I could do to help them, and they told me if they thought of anything they would let me know.

Once we left, I went home and lay in my bed thinking about the song and how he had written it, I felt awful. I missed him so much.

-Time Skip-

The day of his funeral arrived. I dressed in my best black suit.

Patton, Logan and I all showed up and the ceremony together. I was not ready. Patton sensed I was nervous and upset. He linked our arms together, hoping to reassure me.

Half way through the ceremony I was asked to go and sing the song he wrote and I composed.

"He wrote the lyrics, I composed the song" I clarified and I sat down and the piano and started playing, gaining the courage I started to sing. When I played the music the first time, I had planned on the song being a happy one, but during the funeral, it came out slow and sad. Portraying my feelings.

I finished the song and sat back in my seat between Patton and his parents.

Once the ceremony finished, we went and buried the casket.

Everyone left after that, Patton and Logan told me they would wait in the car for me. I told them I would be there shortly. I just had to say goodbye.

I sat by the newly placed dirt, and felt tears fall for the first time that day. I hummed the melody of the first song we had done together, to myself. I looked at the ground and the flowers where the headstone would go and I couldn't console myself.

I managed to choke out one thing before I left.

"I love you, Virgil."
