"Ugh"

"Don't you get smart with me"

"I HATE YOU"

Carmen slams the door before her mom could say anything else. As usual, Carmen regrets coming home last night.

"I knew I should have just stayed with Ryan" she huffs under her breath as she opens her car door and climbs in.

Carmen pulls her little silver car out of the garage. The sun burns her eyes and she fumbles around with her sunglasses on the car floor. She might still be a little hung over after the party last night. Once the car is free from its dark prison the radio reconnects and someone screams,

"GOOOOD MORNING NEW YORK CITY" Carmen quickly lowers the volume. "It's 7 a.m. on this fine Wednesday morning and many of you are probably on your way to school or work"

"Unfortunately" Carmen rolls her eyes and shuts off the radio. It was hurting her ears. "How much did I drink last night?"

Carmen rolls onto the school grounds and parks her car in her usual spot, horizontal across three parking spaces. She flings open her door and steps one leather heel onto the pavement. Before getting out she reaches over to the glove box on the other side of the car to grab some Advil. She takes three before proceeding.

She walks across the parking lot in her black, ripped, skinny jeans and white crop top paired with her favorite leather jacket and a red bandana tied in her messy blond hair. Boys whistle and call out to her, she smiles as she flips them off and keeps walking towards the school without even turning her head.

When she gets inside she doesn't bother taking her sunglasses off. She sees Kiara wearing a cute little pink sweater and light blue jeans. Carmen turns her head hoping she would not notice her but she does.

"Oh, my god what happened to you?"

Carmen shakes her head and keeps walking.

"Carmen, Carmen, CARMEN" Kiara screams

"I went to a party with Ryan, I might have had just a little bit to drink" Carmen trips over her own feet but recovers without falling over.

"I knew it had something to do with Ryan!!!!" Kiara grabs Carmen's hand and drags her into the girl's bathroom. "Carmen, Carmen look at me. I told you he was a bad influence. This is the third time you have come into school hammered since you started going out with him. I'm not even going to bring up all the times you were stoned. You can't keep doing this crap. You are going to get in trouble"

"Last time I checked, Kiara, you are not my mother." Carmen rolls her eyes. She knew Kiara would not be happy about this and she had been telling her she needs to break up with Ryan for quite some time now.

"No, Carmen, I'm not your mother but I am your best friend and that is a hell of a lot more important." Kiara hated swearing but she knew it was one way to show Carmen she was serious.

"You're right. I'm sorry for being such a bitch I just always have so much fun with Ryan and we never do anything wrong."

"You're kidding me right now, right?" Kiara could not believe it "This has to be the alcohol talking because 99% of the things you and Ryan do are wrong! You skip school, you drink, you smoke, you stay out way too late, you run away for days at a time.

"Ok, ok, you can stop." The bell rings "You need to go to class"

Kiara walks Carmen to her locker. Ryan is there waiting for her. He is also wearing sunglasses.

"Hey babe, I had fun last night" He grabs Carmen by the waist and pulls her close to him.

"I bet you did" Carmen smiles and kisses him

Kiara pretends to throw up as she rolls her eyes.

"Let's get out of here. These lights are killing me." Ryan suggests.

"You read my mind" Carmen grabs his hand and they start to walk away but she turns back to talk to Kiara.

"Don't do this" Kiara warns

"We will be fine. I love you" She turns back to Ryan.

"I'll see you at karate tonight," Kiara says with a wink.

"We'll see about that" Carmen yells back

"We have to teach the 3-5-year-old class tonight. At 4. Don't forget." Kiara reminds her.

"Shit"

Kiara smiles and walks to class. She knew no matter what, Carmen, would always be at karate. Sometimes she would be late. Sometimes she would be completely wasted or high as hell. Sometimes she would be with Ryan but she would always be at karate. Karate was the one thing in Carmen's life besides Kiara that Carmen loved. It was because of karate that Carmen met Kiara.

They were both three years old the day of their first karate class. They were the only two girls in the class and they were both in there for the same reason. Their dads were terrified of the girls getting beat up or pushed around by anyone but boys especially. If only Carmen's dad had known that Carmen would be the one beating up and pushing around the boys. They were paired up to work together and they had been friends ever since. Now they are black belts and both hold champion titles but these are basically the only two things the girls have in common now.

They both used to be too pure for the world. They were innocent and sweet but a lot changed when Carmen started dating Ryan their freshmen year. Kiara hoped it was just a phase. She really hoped Carmen would get over Ryan but 4 years later they are still together. Now, Kiara is still the little angel that is too innocent for the world but Carmen is practically the devil.
