"It was on this day that Ivory Wilts was held accountable for killing 7 of her classmates at Jackson High School, Meig county Tennessee." I yelled in a loud manner feeling a sense of ambivalence as I do.
Hello I'm Ivory, yes I'm the winner: the winner of the single spot left in heaven. But not the heaven that my Christian "family" speaks of: an all powerful god that does good and loves you, but will hate you if he created you "wrong" and in turn you do "wrong". No I speak of the Heaven of Brookwood Asylum where me and my only friend, Violet, have been playing the remembering game everyday. Well sorry for the short introduction, need I go on?
"Ivory they need to know every thing about you and what has happened to help us." Says Violet
Ok fine So you know my name already, Well I'm 17 years old and I live in Meig county Tennessee, well I did I don't know if I still do, it's complicated. But I grew up there and lived there as long as I can remember with a foster family, "mother", "father", and john-my brother. There, a proper introduction, now as I was saying Brookwood Asylum my home, I have been here for a little over a year, 14 months, since the "event".
Supposedly about 12 months ago Ivory killed 7 students that attended her school. On the night of Jackson High school's summer dance she drove them to her "father's" summer cabin in Pike Woods. She tortured them for hours then slit their throats. She drove back to the dance an hour later without changing out of her dress. Which was a cream white hand stitched by her grandmother. Plastered in blood, from her laced rose patterned sleeves, to her dazzling glittered collar and flowing train of the back of her dress which almost passed her bold white 3 inch open-toe heels. When she walked into the school gym she felt a strange sense of euphoria and then began to laugh as the music slowly faded out as she closed her eyes spinning in the middle of the dance floor arms outstretched covered in blood. As she opened her eyes she noticed that everyone had been staring at her she never knew how beautiful she was there shining in her beautiful silk dress on this special night. She smiled to her self. As the music had completely stopped her hearing had appeared to transition back to normal. The dean of the school had come into the gym and had escorted her to his office.
She really doesn't remember what happens after that. Try, Try Try ,Try! I-she-Ivory, I-vory...I try to remember and remember but I cannot. So that is why me and Violet play the remembering game.
"She killed them, she really did, Im sure of it and she isn't sorry, nope, she doesn't feel bad why would she?! They made her! They made her! Th-They made her-rr!!!" I screamed at the top of my lungs on the cafeteria table as patients walk and roll by me. Some cheering me on others getting overly excited and getting jittery. The commotion draws the attention of the guards standing post outside of the cafeteria doors.
"Get down now Ivory!" Violet whisper-shouts, loud enough for only me to hear.
I scurry down from the table and almost slip placing my feet covered in thick white cotton socks against the slick white marble floor. I contain my composure and straighten out my hospital gown and smile as the guards push through he crowd that has accumulated around my table.
"Everyone Happy Place now!" The guards yell.
And with that all the patients snap out if their heightened excitement, they continue to aimlessly wander around and mutter gibberish.
"Wilts! What have we told you about your sudden outbursts?"
The guard asks.I simply just smile and nod replying, "My happy place is my place to share and express my emotions and thoughts, at least that's what Dr. Hemmings told me sir."
The guards stood there for a few moments before dismissing me with another warning, the third one this month to be exact. They leave the cafeteria and stand outside the two doors. Happy place is the term staff used to calm down patients here, in out sessions with Dr. Hemmings he tells us to visit our happy places when talking to him. I like going there because there I can always hear Violet clearly and then we get better at playing the remembering game.
I hear Violet call to me, "Ivory come on, it's time to leave the cafeteria, check-ups will start any minute."
As I approach the door I see the two guards talking to each other through the glass windows on the door, then they leave their post. A second after I hear the lunch buzzard go off and the doors suddenly open revealing the one and only Dr. Hemmings.
