Hi :)
-----
L"We believe that you have suffered a severe concussion," the doctor, Dr. Meldon, speaks, looking down at some paperwork in his hands.
"A concussion? From what?" I ask, confused. The last thing I remember was leaving Sky with Angela. I can't remember why I left my apartment or where I was going or how I ended up with a black eye and a concussion. My entire body hurts like hell.
Dr. Meldon looks up from the papers and gives me a small smile, "Probably from the same thing that caused your black eye." He stands up and walks over to me, looking down at my injury with a frown. "It should heal within the next few weeks. Your concussion, however, might take some time. We'd like to keep you here for a few nights to monitor the situation and make sure that the memory loss that you're experiencing isn't permanent."
I shake my head from my upright position in the uncomfortable hospital bed. The motion makes me dizzy so I speak instead, "I can't stay. I have to go home. I have a kid to look after."
The doctor frowns again, "Is there someone else your child can stay with? Maybe your girlfriend?"
My eyebrows furrow, "Girlfriend? I don't have a-"
"Sorry, babe, when I woke up you were gone and one of the nurses said they were doing some tests on you so I went to the cafeteria to get us coffee and-" the brunette I recognize as the girl that was sleeping beside me earlier pauses mid sentence when she notices Dr. Meldon standing above me.
"Think about what I said. I'll give you two some time to talk things over and when I come back we can discuss." Dr. Meldon speaks to me. He gives the girl in the doorway a smile as he leaves the room and closes the door.
The girl wastes no time before she's by my side, pulling the tv tray in front of me and putting the coffees on it. I frown, I've never been much of a fan of coffee but I don't want to upset the girl so I smile and say thank you. She pulls up a chair beside my bed and smiles back. We sit in silence for a few minutes and I take the time to study her features with my one good eye in an attempt to remember how she and I know each other. Her dark hair contrasts with the white walls of the room, her dark eyes looking at me intensely.
Is she my girlfriend? She is crazy pretty, but I feel weird asking if we're dating since I'm sure she's been through enough over the last twenty four hours.
She breaks the silence, "How are you feeling?"
I vaguely recognize her voice but it somehow still feels foreign to me. "Minus the massive headache and swollen eye, I guess I'm feeling alright." The silence takes over us again after I speak. She sips her coffee. After a few moments, I decide to speak again, "Can you tell me what happened? I can't remember anything after leaving my apartment, not even where I was going."
She shakes her head, "I think it's better that you just rest for now until the doctor comes back." She gets up and walks around the foot of my bed to the other side and grabs the remote for the TV. She hands it to me and smiles softly, standing over me with sad eyes, "I have to go to work, but I'll come back and check on you later tonight."
I take the remote from her hand and nod despite the uncertainty surrounding who she is and my need to know what happened to me. She reaches down, planting a kiss on my forehead. I don't have time to question the gesture before she rushes out of the room, closing the door quietly behind her.
I sigh and lean back into the uncomfortable bed. I think about hitting the button beside my bed to ask for a nurse and see if they know about what happened to me, but judging from the pretty girls' reaction when I asked, I think that it might be better to wait until I'm not so drained.
I look down at the remote in my hand and point it toward the TV on the wall opposite my bed, turning it on. I scroll through the first few channels, mostly commercials or football games, but stop on channel 7, the local news station, curious about what has been going on outside the walls of the hospital.
The scene on the screen makes me nearly stop breathing.
In the top corner of the screen, the word "LIVE" reads in big, bold, red letters. In the middle of the screen are police officers lined around a house, guns drawn. The bottom left corner is where the network's logo is and in the bottom right are pictures of two women.
The woman on the left has long, blonde hair and striking grey eyes. Her picture causes the hairs on the back of my neck to stand up and immediately, I recognize her. Alex.
All of the memories from dinner come flooding back to me at once from the waitress, Lucy, to getting my ass kicked by Alex. Suddenly, a certain brown haired cuban comes to the forefront of my mind. I swallow hard and take another look at the police officers surrounding the house before I look at the picture next to that of Alex. It's Camila.
Reflex makes me smile at the sight of her, but as I turn my focus back to the middle of the screen, terror takes over.
I bolt upright, turning the volume of the TV as loud as it can go so I can hear more about the situation.
"-believed to be armed, holding Cabello as a hostage. Authorities are unsure of the relationship between the two women, but a source has confirmed that they are in a relationship. The police are stationed outside of Alexandra Daniels residence, near Westwood park. Police advise that people remain away from this area for the time being."
The camera zooms into one of the windows, the curtain moved back just slightly so that two grey eyes can peak out at the street. My blood boils at the sight of her.
The camera zooms in even further and there is Camila's face, filled with fear, her hands tied above her head to what looks to be the headboard of a bed. I can hear my heartbeat racing as my eyes go wide and I can see nothing but her scared features. I sit there, taking in the situation as if time was standing still. Camila can't get hurt. I need her.
I don't waste another second before I am out of the bed, clad only in my hospital nightgown. I rip the needle pumping fluid into my body from my arm and grab my phone off of the table beside me. I sprint down the hallway of the hospital, avoiding nurses and other patients, locating the nearest stairway and descending rapidly. I pull out my phone as I run, opening the Uber app and looking for the nearest car. To my surprise, there's one right outside the hospital. I quickly type in Westwood park's address and submit it. The confirmation comes just as I burst through the front doors of the hospital, completely out of breath, and continue my sprint to the car. I slide in quickly, much to the driver's surprise as the conformation of the ride comes through on his end.
"Please hurry," I speak between ragged breaths, "it's an emergency."
The older man in the driver's seat nods as he looks back at me through the rearview mirror. He swiftly puts the car into drive and the tires of the car screech as we take off down the road.
I send a silent prayer to whoever might be listening, please let Camila be okay.
