_____________________________Layla's POV
"NATHAN AND AARON IF YALL DONT GET YO ASSES OF YA MOMMAS TABLE I SWEAR TO THE GOOD LORD IMMA BEAT YALLS ASSES." I hear Summer yell from the dinning room. I roll my eyes as I continue to stir the gravy for the turkey. I feel hands wrap around my waist from behind and I immediately recognized Jacksons clean smell. After almost 15 years of marriage he still manages to make my heart flutter. He sways us gently to the smooth jazz music I had playing in the background as I cooked thanksgiving dinner.
We had almost everyone over. Our parents and siblings, Summer (Who keeps threatening to beat my childrens ass.) her fiance Tony, Patricia with her husband Chris as well as their 7 year old daughter. Katherine was here with her boyfriend Caleb, Annabelle had brought her older brother as well as her 10 year old son. Aria and Jason were obviously here. They married 2 years after Jackson and I and they have a 11 year old son. Jackson had invited his cop partner, Mark, and his wife and children.
"You know, Summer and Katherine damn near dragged our 14 year old sons off of the dinning table." Jackson mumbled into my hair. I hummed in reponse as I go to check the greenbean casserole.
"Jackson you need to let go so I can open the oven." I said trying to pry his hands from around my waist. Instead of responding he picks me up easily and carries me over to the oven. I laugh as the memory of the first time he did that. Nearly 25 years ago. Jesus Im old. Jackson let me go to cook while he went to go to "manly things" aka watch football with the other men while the girls and I talk in the kitchen.
An hour later I had the table set up and the girls were helping to round up children and place food. After we got the children in their seats and dragged the bigger children away from their precious "football game" (Please it was the Cowboys and the Chargers. How precious can it be?) we sat around the humongous dinning table-- that I had to perchase especially for occasions like these-- said grace and what we were thankful for, and started to eat.
Talking and laughing filled the room. Utensils scrapping against plates, people asking to pass this or that, asking to turn the music up a little more, it made my large house feel like a comfortable home. I could never get enough of these people. I hope that 50 years into the future, if we'll all be alive then still, that we will still have moments like this. Filled with laughter and love.
"Happy Thanksgiving everyone!"
