The Meeting

She wrapped her hands onto the plater and straightened her back while pulling away from the frame of the door, making sure not to trip over the curb or anything else that could be in the way. Otherwise there would be the possibility for her to drop the large amount of food that now sat in her hands.

"You... you're sure this is all of it?" The blonde, golden haired girl pulled the dishes closer to her stomach.

"Yeah, I'm sure." The boy next to her closed the car door with his elbow. "What? Do you think we bought even more than... well, this?" His tousled jet black bounced as he gestured to the five foil food containers he held with his two hands and arms.

She replied, "I mean, I didn't count, so."

"Good thing I did." He began to walk away from the car with Serena following him. "Or else we would, oh, so terribly miss a plater that my one mother so desperately needs."

She giggled a bit. "I suppose so, but my mom is there, too. And I'm not much of a story teller, but she can eat, I'll tell you."

Ash laughed, his breath visible and creating a cloud in front of his face as he began to walk up the steps to the front porch. "Well, I'm not much of a liar, but on my mom's behalf, I have no idea where my love for food comes from."

"I almost forgot about you," Serena looked up at him, smiling widely.

"How could you? I basically chose all the dishes except for... two, I think." He walked up in front of the house door.

They paused for a bit, giving a look to each other.

"You think they're hitting it off?" Serena looked up at him, her eyebrows making a slide-like outline.

"My bet is that they're kicking it off, too." The boy joked, pushing the doorbell with his elbow.

They waited a maybe a minute or less with the unimaginable amount of food in their hands, warming them as the cold air around them cut at the tips of noses until the door opened.

"Hey, Mom." Ash showed his teeth as his lips traveled their way up to his ears.

"My goodness, you guys brought a lot," Ms. Ketchum gasped, taking some of the top containers from Serena that sat atop the tower of food that Serena had made. "You guys shouldn't have made so much!" She rushed inside, allowing the two of them to follow.

"Gee, thanks, Mom." Ash mumbled so only Serena could hear. For his mom didn't even bother taking any platers from him.

"Not your fault that your mom loves me more." Serena's rose colored cheeks gleamed.

The raven haired boy rolled his eyes. He knew that his mom loved him more... right?

"How has today been, Delia?" Serena asked Ash's mom.

"Oh, it's been fine." She set the foil containers onto the counter of the kitchen. "Your mom should actually be in the dining room."

"Oh, okay." Serena set her set of containers down as well, Ash following her.

"She's a blast by the way," Delia enlightened.

Serena chuckled to herself before beginning to walk towards the other side of the house. "Good to hear."

Ash stood there, staring at his mom.

Delia stared back at him. "What? Did I say something?"

Ash shook his head and rolled his eyes one more time that night. "No, you just haven't hugged me yet."

They all sat at the table, eating serving after serving throughout the entirety of the night.

Ash ate the most being him. Serena ended up being the one who ate the least.

An odd couple.

The perfect kind of couple.

The night ended with a gift or two with the growing family.

There was a point in the night where Ash and Serena had gotten up from the table and Serena tried to get him to dance with her to the Christmas music.

Too bad she ignored the fact that he couldn't dance. Her mother couldn't help but adore this side brought out of her though.

That night they danced, they laughed, and ate until they couldn't no more. But most importantly that night they experienced a certain pure thing that they can't receive from any other time in the year.

Christmas love.

The best kind of love.
