~Majime

I woke up to the sound of my alarm beeping in my ear. I reached over to turn it off but instead knocked it off my bedside table. I groaned and got up into a sitting position. As I was rubbing my eyes I smelt the breakfast my grandfather was cooking.

I got up and quickly got dressed in shorts and a tank top with a swimsuit underneath. As I raced down the stairs, skipping a few as I ran I heard my grandfather call me for breakfast.

"good morning grandfather what did ya make for us today?" I questioned as I entered the kitchen.

"that was quick Majime, but to answer your question I made eggs and bacon with a side of toast," he said with a smile.

I grabbed a plate from the pantry and filled it with eggs and a few pieces of bacon. Then I got out the jam and slathered it all over my toast. After I did that I took my plate to the table where my grandfather had already put a glass of milk for me.

"so do you plan on swimming today Majime?" he questioned as he sat down with his plate of food.

"of course I plan on swimming it's the one thing I look forward to every day, that and your amazing cooking" I replied with a sweet smile.

Ever since I moved here five years ago when I was ten, I have looked forward to swimming. My grandfather lives by the ocean so swimming is pretty much all I know now. I had to move here because my parents were killed in a fire, and now I refuse to even look at fire. I honestly don't think I can without crying.

I finished my food and then went to put my plate in the sink along with my glass. My grandfather soon did the same.

I tried to run out the door but my grandfather caught me before I could.

"now come on you know by now that before you can go swimming you have to wait at least an hour so your food can settle," he said with a knowing look on his face.

"okay fine.... But can we watch TV at least?" I asked looking disappointed.

"of course whatever will keep you inside for an hour" he replied with a smile.

We both went to the living room and took a seat in our normal spots. Grandfather switched on the TV and turned on my favorite show 'Gilligan's Island'

I cheered in delight as he turned it on. I know it's an old show but I still love it to death.

After two episodes of Gilligan, I asked if I could go swimming. My grandfather smiled and said yes.

I raced out the door and to the peer that I usually jump off into the water. I took off my tank and shorts and left them where they wouldn't get wet. Then I jumped into the water, but something unusual happened the second my feet hit the water. The water around me started steaming to the point I couldn't see anything. I screamed for my grandfather a few times before I was finally pulled out of the water.

"Majime what happened and why are you so hot? Your skin is boiling" my grandfather asked with a concerned look plastered on his face.

"I- I don't know I just jumped in and it started steaming" I replied in tears.

"oh no, I was afraid this would happen" my grandfather muttered under his breath.

"afraid what would happen, grandfather what is happening?"

I questioned.

"Majime I'm afraid you are one of the few people have superhuman abilities. You can manipulate fire" he said sadly.

"WHAT! Why fire, why did it have to be fire!" I screamed with more tears streaming down my face.

"and I have more bad news. If what I've heard is true people are going to come take you away to a training facility. I'm so very sorry Majime" my grandfather said with a tear slipping from his eyes.

I ran from the peer to my room and plopped down on my bed face first. I laid there and cried for what felt like hours but was probably only a few minutes. I would have stayed in that position longer but I heard a knock at the door and decided I should answer it. That was my first mistake.
