( Holland Roden as Lydia Martin )
" In my city there's over 700 hundred different gangs, the streets are mostly dominated by traffickers and gangbangers armed to the teeth. They are friends of weapons such as the HK rifles, AR15's, Uzis and AK - 47's, in the rest of the world this type of weaponry is used for war, in my city these are the weapons used by organized crime. An armored piercing round is capable of tearing a police squad car as if it was made of paper, capable of shredding a police officer and turning him into a pile of shit. Police officers have families, they too are afraid of dying, at the end of the day no one wants to die in vain ".
Politicians, government officials and the media, how is it that they think they know what it's like to walk these streets everyday, they don't see what we see, they haven't put on our boots and walked our walk so how can they know what police officers like me go trough each day. But I guess bad mouthing comes with the job right? Which brings me to here...
" Chicago PD ", I knocked on the door while Scott, Lydia, Malia and Allison readied themselves to breach the house.
Scott and Allison were in front of the door with both of their Remington GPC automatic rifles raised in front of them and ready to unleash a barrage of bullets, Lydia held an Barret REC7 as she stood behind me, watching my back because I was about to kick the door down. Malia was covering the back armed with an Barrett M468 and would cut down anyone who tried to escape, I took a deep breath and positioning myself in front of the door I raised my SA80 rifle to shoulder level and that's when I breached the house. Allison, Lydia, Malia, Scott and I made up the Chicago Police Department Intelligence Unit, we were better funded and equipped thanks to the generous monetary and weapons contribution Thomas Riordan Company provided the department with each year. Lydia and Allison had both served in the ARMY before which enabled them with the experience to meet the demands of our unit, Scott was an Army Ranger and served four years of active combat duty. I served as a member of the Force Reconnaissance (FORECON) USMC special forces or ( SOC ) for short, the only one of us without any military previous experience was Malia but her story was different than ours. Malia and I crossed paths 7 years ago when I formed part on a drug house raid, police officers breached the house and we found several people either drugged out of their minds, passed out due to overdoses, buying and selling drugs. Malia was amongst the people who were arrested during the raid but I saw something in her that no one else did, I saw her heart, I saw that all she needed to achieve great things and be someone in life was somebody who helped her. Even those who are lost are not a hopeless cause and they too can find the correct path, I was barely creating my Intelligence unit and saw the potential Malia had to be a distinguished and important member of the police force. I had to shake allot of really politically powerful trees but in the end I took her under me, I offered Malia a home, someone who cared about her, someone who would be there for her, I offered her a new opportunity, a new start and she grabbed the chance I was offering her and made someone of herself. Despite our past, despite the places we come from, those factors do not define our lives or who we are because it's all in our hands, it's up to us to take a chance and grab opportunities as they pass us by. I guess you could say Malia became like a daughter to me and I loved her as such, besides her I only had my father left in my family and along with the members of my unit, they made up what could be deemed my world.
