Part 9- Career Encounter

The Gamemakers took the Girl On Fire thing literally. Katniss stumbled upon an area that was rigged with fire attacks. There was also poison in the air she was inhaling. But the good news is, she found a pool before all of that happened. Katniss has a ugly wound on her calf, and right now Peeta Mellark is with the Careers. With the CAREERS?!

That has never ever happened before! I ask the teacher if me and my friends could go home and she said yes. I catch a glint of Jess' and Amaryllis' dark brown hair, and then pull Taylor with me to catch them. "Where are we going?" Taylor says. "We're going home, Jess, Amaryllis, you, me, we're going to watch the Games. The teacher allowed us." I say with a sturdy voice.

When we get to Jess and Amaryllis, they agree to come home with us. "If I was just with Katniss there, I could heal her burn in an instant!" I exclaim. "But you're not." says Jess. "I know." I reply. We finally arrive home, and Katniss is in a small pond, cooling off. Luckily she found it. A few hours later, the Career pack find Katniss.

"How's everything with you?" Katniss calls down cheerfully to the Careers. "Well enough. Yourself?" Cato, the monstrous boy from 2 says. "It's been a bit warm for my taste." Katniss says. The Capitol must be having a good laugh right now. "The air's better up here. Why don't you come on up?" she continues. "She's CRAZY!" says Jess. "No, she said the right thing! That giant boy can't climb that tree! He's too heavy!" counters Amaryllis. "You might be right..." says Jess. "Think I will." says Cato. "Here, take this, Cato." says the girl from 1, giving Cato the bow and arrows. "The names of the children in district 1 are so ridiculous! Glimmer? What kind of name is that?" says Jess in a disgusted voice. "Stop it! Just watch, okay?" says Taylor. "That is Katniss' bow and arrows! She should get those!" I say. "No, I'll do better with my sword." says Cato.

Katniss is 30 feet higher now, and the branch Cato is holding snapped. He hit the ground, swearing. Glimmer tries to climb, but then had the sense to stop. Glimmer shoots at Katniss, but lucky for Katniss Glimmer isn't good with bows. After that the Careers are growling. Then finally Peeta says, "Oh let her stay up there. It's not like she's going anywhere. We'll deal with her in the morning." He's right. Katniss is going nowhere.

Katniss prepares for bed, and then moments later, she finds Rue in a tree, not so far away from her. Then for a while nothing happens, then Rue's hand points up above Katniss' head.
