On a quiet, country road at night, there was only one car; that car was pulled over, lights off. If you were a hitchhiker, you could hear faint gasping noises. Maybe it's a dying animal, you think to yourself. It's not. After a minute, you hear a voice saying, "It's gonna be okay. She's almost here. You're doing great." It's the opposite of a dying animal. It's a human woman giving birth.
~~~Rachel cradled the bloody newborn in her arms, forehead gleaming in the dark with sweat. "My love." She whimpered; not from the physical pain, but from the emotional pain she was suffering, knowing she would have to sacrifice herself for her daughter. "Ben. Take Hevannah as far away from here as possible." Rachel gasped. "My brothers are almost here. They can't know she survived. I'll have to distract them. They will find you, but you will have a head start."
Ben didn't argue. It tore him up to leave his wife behind like this in her condition, but he had seen this coming for a long time. He wasn't ready then and he wasn't ready now. But he took his baby and ran into the woods. Rachel had taught him the sigil to ward the angels off, but it was only a momentary distraction. Plus he didn't have the time to draw his own blood. So he did the unthinkable. Ben carved the symbol into his own daughter's chest. She yowled even louder as the knife pierced her skin. "I know darling, it'll be over soon." He crooned to her. At least this way, she could keep any enemy angels at bay, at least for a while."Where is the nephilim?" The angel Jacob demanded. "She's already gone," Rachel said. "You can't take her." "Rachel, that child is an abomination! She's too powerful to be kept alive. And once she figures out who she is, there's no going back." He shook his head. "I should have known you were foolish enough to fall for a human man. I didn't think you would give birth to his child!"
"You know the rules, sister. We have to kill her." Rachel's other brother, Israel said, somewhat sadly. He was the softer of the two, often siding with his sister on arguments. But this was one rule he couldn't break.
"You can't have her!" She spat. And as the last words were leaving her mouth, Jacob took out his angel blade and stabbed his sibling, stone faced as her body twitched, releasing her grace, as she screamed, as his brother turned away from the scene. "I'm sorry." Jacob said, not looking remotely sorry at all. "It has to be done for the sake of mankind."The pair had found Ben after a few hours. He was hiding in the forest, in the bushes. "Ben, if you just give us the child, we won't hurt you."
"No! I won't let you hurt my daughter." He shouted, backing away. "Leave us alone!" The father placed his hand on Hevannah's chest and a blinding light flashed through the forest. Jacob and Israel screamed as they vanished.
But when Ben couldn't feel his child in his arms, he panicked. The man had forgotten that Hevannah was part angel, and that the sigil would affect her, too.
"I'm going to find you. I promise." He vowed.
