I didn't have that damn string from the start.

My memory is blurry of what my teacher told me that day but I remember a few things she said.

"An invisible red thread connects those destined to meet, despite the time, the place, and despite the circumstances. The thread can be tightened or tangled, but it will never be broken."

I looked around, my classmates looked so interested, I could tell everyone was excited to learn about the thread. Me? No. I was barely even listening. The teacher went on and on, time passed and I got really bored. I couldn't stay still. I was uncomfortable. Right then and there, I made up my mind. I said something risky. I raised my hand and said

"Miss!"

"Yes?"

"I don't have the red thread..."

"...O-oh, I-"

My teacher gave me this look of concern and told me she needed to speak with me after class.

My stomach churned and my heart sank and was beating fast. I knew I was in some kind of trouble. I knew she would call my parents or the principal. Or worse, both.

Minutes felt like hours. I couldn't wait to get out of class, have that stupid talk with my teacher and go home.

I hugged my knees. I was sitting in the back against the wall, so I laid back a bit and rested my head up against it and fell asleep until class was over.

"...wake up, class is over now."

"Huh, uh-" I mumbled. I rubbed my eyes and blinked. "Oh, yes ma'am" I got up.

"Today in class you told me that you didn't have a red thread, why do you think that?"

"Miss, I'm not to sure. I just don't think a boy like me would have any red thread.."

The teacher took a deep breath and let out a sigh.

"Oh, I'm sure a handsome boy such as yourself will find a wonderful soulmate one day. Just give it time."

That's all I remember from school. I also remember coming home to my parents, them asking why I came home so late and me telling them about the red thread lesson from that day. I also told my parents about me not having any red thread that's supposedly invisible and tied around your finger. They were concerned too I could tell. They made dinner, I ate and went to sleep. I was anticipating the weekend already even though today was only Monday and I had a whole week to get through.

That's all I can remember from that day.

That's me, Aleksander.
A guy that probably doesn't have soulmate. After what happened that day in school, no one else knew about it except my parents. But after saying what I said in class, kids teased me about not having the thread. Other then that I lead a pretty normal life.

Although I have to admit, I did envy my classmates who always talked about their future soulmates.

And me? ...I just sat there.

I studied

Got into photography and started taking pictures

And when I was around some of my friends, I lied...about having a soulmate too.

I was just minding my own business.

Until...

I heard my phone ring, notifying me that somebody has requested to message me.

"Huh?" I took a look at the screen
"v.popescu has requested to chat with you"

His message read "Hey! I really liked your pictures! They're very aesthetic haha, will you post more?"

I smiled and wrote "Oh, thank you. I did my best ;; I really appreciate this!"

I got a quick response! His reply said

"Oh ooooOH!! YOU ACTUALLY RESPONDED ASHKAadjls"

"Sorry, I just like your pictures so much! Aa!"

I typed "Me having fans? Impossible! Ha-"

"My name is Aleksander. What's yours?"

"Vladimir"

And out of nowhere, Vladimir appeared in my life!

I have never gotten along with someone so well.

{ And that's where this story begins }
