THE THING ABOUT THE GODS is that they are selfish, greedy beings who only care about their own self-interest. Mortals are similar, in some ways — by fighting their own brother, to creating war and chaos, they only seek what they desire.

Yet only some are given the chance to earn what they seek in life — or, in some cases, eternal life.

"Please," the man cried out, "I—I'll do anything, just let me go!" With his vision blurry and blood falling from the wound on his head on his eye, he couldn't tell who was the one who attacked him — only that it was a woman.

"Let you go?" There was a chuckle as he was grabbed by the throat and lifted in the air. "I don't know why people think I would allow them to just leave — maybe it's my face or possibly it's the fact that I smile too much, but let me remind you that I am the one with the upper hand here, and I have your life in the palm of my hands, literally."

He choked out a sob, "Please, I will do as you say!" The woman laughed and tightened her hand on his throat.

"Look, Lyle — it is Lyle, isn't it?" He nods his head, unsure as to how she knew his name but was more focused on trying to breathe and survive. "I do want to believe you, I really do. It's just that every time I trust someone will do as I say, they try to run away and escape. And I can't allow my new pet to try and run off."

"I will help—" he gasps and felt his eyes roll to the back of his head, "I promise!"

Watching the man squirm and suffocate, made the woman smile in amusement as he spewed out lies to save his own skin. "They all promise to help or to just simply not say a word. But, you're all the same, Mr. Whitman. I have no room to judge or no right to say that my people are innocent are aren't liars in the slightest — but, mortals aren't all good and pure either."

"You're...people?" He ignored her question.

Her grin widened as the blood fell to the floor from his wound, "Yes, the immortals you blabbering idiot." With a sigh, she released him from her iron-like grip and stared at him with boredom as he gasped for air and coughed. He wanted to question more but knew better when she gave a glare.

Then she grew annoyed as he began to sob and cry once again.

"Stop acting so dramatic, I'm not going to kill you yet." He raised his head up at her, now realizing that the woman who had attacked him was more beautiful than he could imagine. With a long black dress with a slit that showed her legs, and a body that he would've gladly taken advantage of if he was not in the situation he's in now. Perhaps what she had said was true — maybe she wasn't human. "I'm going to need something from you before we have our little fun."

The man quickly lowered his eyes, "What could you possibly need from me?"

She smiled and held his phone out to him, "This man, do you know him?"

He clenched his jaw in anger, knowing that she had taken his phone and the chance to escape. "He's my boss — Roman De Vanti."

"Everyone knows who he is, Mr. Whitman. I know you are an employee of his, and that you are trusted by him. Now, here is the part where I need your assistance. I need you to tell me everything you know about him and to bring me to his office."

"That's it? What do I get in return?"

Her chuckle made him flinch in fear, "This isn't a negotiation, it is either you die now or help me and you have the chance to live a little longer." The man took a moment to think, which was impossible having a seductive killer before him threatening his life.

"Okay," he gave in and sighed. "I'll help you, what have I got to lose?" He mumbled the last part, turning to her he scooted back from fear as she was now bending her knees in front of him with a wide grin.

"You just made my day, Mr. Whitman."

— 3 HOURS LATER —

"WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO let me go? I've given you the information that I have on Mr. De Vanti!" Struggling against the rope digging into his wrists, Lyle looked at the woman searching for something through the file box he had given her.

Glancing at him, she chuckled as she watched him struggle, "Mr. Whitman, I am grateful that you've given me information on this bastard, but now I need some assistance on entering his office. And I certainly didn't say that I will let you go."

"May I ask why you need information on him?"

Returning her attention to the file, he knew that it was a touchy subject as she was silent for a brief moment, "Roman and I — we knew each other in the past, and he took something of mine that I want back."

Sweat beaded down his forehead as he gulped when she placed the folder on the table and stepped over to him.

"W-What did he take from you?" A wide grin spread across her face as her eyes flash an inhuman color, swirling with malice and amusement. Bringing her nail from his cheek to his chest, he froze from her touch.

"I think we've asked enough questions, for now, stay and be a good boy until I return. I have to make a quick call." Removing her finger she glanced at his restraints, "Not that you can't go anywhere anyway."

With a sadistic smile, she faced away from him and reached for her phone inside her cleavage as she dialed a number she knew by heart.

"What have you done now?" Glancing over at the restrained man, she snickered.

"Hello to you too, Michael. I just wanted to ask if you would be my date for tonight?"

Hearing him sigh on the other end, Katherine noticed the man trying to listen in on her conversation.

"Let me guess, you want me to go to that yearly event who is hosted by a certain man you despise?"

"Maybe — but, before you say no—"

"No."

"Michael, you owe me. I understand that once I do this, I cannot undo what I've done. But, I can't do this alone, please."

"Alright," Katherine smiles as his answer and chuckles when she hears him sigh. "This is the last time I do you any more favors."

"Whatever you say, see you at six. You know where to meet." She ends the call and turns, facing the man with a wide grin. "Looks like we're going to the ball, Cinderella."
