I've lived in this city since I was young, New York has always been my home, from the cool chill in the air to the busy streets. But there is one thing I will never accept about this city. The constant killings. I am a private investigator and a part time consultant for the New York police department. My name is Jason grey and this is the story of how my life went from bad to worse.
" Mr. Grey?" I looked up from my desk. Mrs. Lilly was a constant client of mine, she was determined to prove that her daughter in law was cheating on her son. My eyes met with the elderly lady and sat back in my chair. " what can I do for you today mrs Lilly?" I asked smiling and sitting strait in my wooden desk chair. " I know you have been very patient with my payments but if I can get one more job from you I'll pay you as soon as possible." This wasn't like the last few times she came to me. In a way you can say she was more timid, more scared for her life. " I'm here to please" I said pulling out a pack of Camel cigarettes. Taking out my zippo I swiped the striker and lit my cigarette before putting it in my mouth. " my son, he has gone missing and I am worried." My mind shut off as I watched the elderly woman's mouth move but all I could hear was the ticking of the clock. 12 times she has said the words my son in 1 minute, 9 times she said my poor baby in 40 seconds, and only 1 time did she say please in the 5 minutes. I was getting tired of the same results, but this time she seemed legitimately scared. I needed more clients but there was no way I could get a job outside of this. Hell, the police department only calls me in when there is a case they absolutely find strange or something is wrong. I released the air from my lungs and slowly let the smoke exit my mouth. " so your telling me that your son is missing?" The elderly woman took out a hanker chief and blew her nose. "Did he leave on vacation? Last time you were in here you were telling me that your daughter in law and he were going on a Cruz to the Bahamas." I asked. She shook her head. " they weren't going on the Cruz until the 3rd of July." This was strange even for mrs Lilly. She was never the kind of person to shake vigorously in my office. She was always so composed and always so passionate. Now she is worried and it's my job to find her son. " it was Steven am I right?" The elderly woman nodded her head in response. I got up from my chair and walked her to the door. "I will take the case ma'am" i said as I lead her through the door. " thank you so much mr grey" she smiled and began to walk away. Just as the door shut behind her my phone began to ring. "Grey private eye how can I help you" a gruff voice came from the other line. "Grey it's the chief, get your ass down here. We have a case"
