The early morning sun was just rising when Ella walked out of her house. The morning wasn't particularly hot, but it felt like the air was already starting to warm up. It was her first day at a new school and she had no idea what it was going to be like. She had spent her whole summer in the crappy town of Parkins Ohio. The whole summer she worked as a camp counselor because her family needed the money. It was only her and her father and her father never did anything. It was mostly just Ella doing work so her father to just spend it on alcohol.

After her mother had died when Ella was ten her father just broke down and was never the same. So from the day her mother died, Ella had to care for herself from then on. She didn't mind it much though, she was kind of free to do whatever she wanted. Though she did have to be careful, sometimes when her father got too drunk she would get scared of him because he would go on a rampage and throw things around the house and just yell.

Ella grabbed her skateboard that was next to the door and fixed the jacket she was wearing. She was wearing a David Bowie shirt that she stole from her father's closet, ratty jeans, and about three-year-old shoes that were so warn out there were holes forming at the bottom of them.

Ella walked down the small path of rocks that lead to the road. When she got to the road, she threw her skateboard down and put her foot on it kicking off with her other foot as she rode down the street. She put her hands in her pockets and just enjoyed the peacefulness.

The ride wasn't long from her house to the school, only about five minutes. When she reached the school, she sighed a bit and got off her skateboard. She watched the group of kids that were talking, yelling, and laughing. It was always a mystery to her on how kids could be so energetic in the morning. She walked through the doors and looked around, she had to get her schedule because she didn't have a computer at home so she wasn't able to print it out.

It took her a couple of minutes to figure out where the main office was. When she found it, she walked in and a woman who wasn't very fond of being bothered in the morning rudely gave it to her. When Ella tried to ask where the room was the woman simply ignored her, so she was off on her own to find her homeroom.

She walked down the hall reading what she had for the day. She most likely wouldn't even go to half the classes because she simply wasn't interested in school. She thought that school wasn't worth her time because she was already in a hell hole and there is no getting out of it once you've got into it.

Finally finding the classroom, she walked into it. The kids were yelling, things were being thrown. It wasn't her kind of class. As she was looking around for a place to sit a paper ball hit her on the side of the head. She looked in the direction the paper ball came from and a slight frown appeared on her face when she saw who it was. A kid who was standing about six feet, so lanky that his clothes were too baggy on him. His hair was of a chestnut brown color and he had glasses that he never really wore, but you knew he needed. He had a huge smile on his face when he noticed who she was.

His name was Flint, Ella knew him from camp though he wasn't a counselor like her, his father owned the camp so he did not work there per say. He spent most of his time there just watching her or trying to hang out with her. Ella wasn't the sort of person who liked to hang out with people especially while she was working. When she worked she liked to get things done without little interaction with people unless she absolutely had to. She sighed softly as he started to walk over to her. Ella looked around for an empty seat and of course, the only seat that was open was next to him.

As he got up to her his smile went down a bit. "Hey Ella," he said in his deep, but adenoidal voice. Ella rolled her eyes and just pushed past him to get to the empty seat. She felt that he was following her. "Are you okay Ella?" Not even waiting for her to answer, even if she wanted to he started talking again. "You don't seem okay. You're different from then at camp. Oh, I got it you got a haircut didn't you?" Ella just looked at him with a blank expression, she shook her head and glanced around the room. "I really don't want you to be talking to me. I don't want people to think that I actually want to make friends." Ella said and looked at Flint.

Flint laughed at that and shook his head, "You are such a kidder." he smiled and sat down at the desk next to her. "What did you do your last two weeks of summer when you didn't have to go to the camp?" again, not waiting for her to answer he decided to answer his own question. "Well, I went to an awesome convention and I got to meet Burt Ward. You do know who that is don't you?" Ella shook her head and looked around unamused. "He is in the original 1966 batman, he played Robin. He is actually one of the only members left to be alive in that cast. He was also quite the ladies man in his day, I want to be like him. Did you also know that in season three that was the first appearance of Batgirl?"

Ella sighed and shook her head again. "Flint please don't talk to me." She was slightly annoyed at how he kept talking to her. Flint opened his mouth to talk, but the bell rang, causing him to close his mouth. "I'll tell you more later." He turned in his seat and looked forward as he listened to the teacher talk on and on.

The rest of her schedule was pretty much normal. The best part was that she had three study halls. Lunch finally came by and Ella had a bit of trouble finding the cafeteria. When she finally found t hs walked in and looked around. It was loud and kids were yelling laughing and just having fun. Ella looked around and saw an empty table all the way in the back not really around people. She made her way past different tables towards the back of the room. Getting up to the table she put her stuff down and sat down.

She sat back in the chair she was sitting in and just relaxed. There was only one more period that she had to get through before she got to go home and look for a new job. Closing her eyes she let her thoughts that ran through her mind just fade away and she was left with just herself. She was interrupted when someone spoke to her. "Is this seat taken?" Ella knew whose voice it was, she opened her eyes a slightly annoyed look on her face. She looked at Flint who was smiling softly at her. "Dude, don't you get that I want to be left alone?" Ella put her feet up on the table and flint shrugged. "I just don't understand your accent when you say that one thing. Where are you from again?"

An accent was one thing that Ella didn't have, Ella lived her whole life moving around so she really didn't pick up an accent. Her parents were both from Connecticut so there wasn't really an accent there. "I'm from many different places." She looked around. "I probably won't even be here by the beginning of Christmas break."

Ella saw flint frown at that, "why? You don't like it here or something. Just get to know the place, trust me, it's a really fun town. You know we are only one of the few towns in Ohio that still have a drive-in movie theater." He started to move his books to the side. "We could go see a movie this weekend if you would like. They are playing The Blob which is a really cheesy horror movie from nineteen fifty-five."

\"That's good for nineteen fifty-five isn't it?" Ella said sarcastically and looked at Flint. "Listen, I know you want to be friends and all, but I don't want to be friends with you. I have made friends before in other schools and it doesn't end well. I won't ever see any of them again and I don't wish to. If I get close to someone in this school, I will just end up leaving them and just end up a forgotten memory. A person that was in a little blimp of their life that was just there and won't ever be back." Ella dropped her feet from the table and started to grab her stuff.

"Wait, wait hold on there," Flint said and put his hands up. "You know that was really inspirational you should be a poet." From the moment flint met her he knew something was wrong with her, but he could never pinpoint what it was. Now he knew, or at least he thought he knew. She had a fear of abandonment in some sort of way. Ella stopped at looked at him, she rolled her eyes when he said that and walked past him and started to go to the doors so she could leave.

Flint got up quickly and started to go after her. "Ella, can you hold on a second? Come on wait up a second." Ella turned, stopping to look at him. "Don't you get that I just want to be left alone? You annoy me. I don't want to be friends with you, get that through your thick skull. What the hell do I have to do to keep you away from me?" Ella chewed on her lip a bit, which was one of the bad habits she had when she fought and when she was angry. Flint stopped, his eyes were slightly wide he didn't expect her to say that. He felt slightly hurt, but he didn't know what to say or do. He just stood there frozen. He felt eyes on him on all sides, that was another reason why he was frozen. When he didn't answer after a couple of seconds Ella turned and quickly walked out of the cafeteria.
