My computer. The first thing I see when I wake up in the morning. It's bright out. And it's 8:35. I got up about 30 minutes later than usual today. Darn. I was hoping to get an early start today. I haven't uploaded a video in about 3 weeks.
Heading down the stairs reminds me that I only have enough food to last me until tomorrow. I'll have to make a trip to that convenience store about two blocks away. Wait... I can can make a video out of this!
For breakfast, I have a can of chicken noodle soup. After this, I go back to my room and change out of my pajamas. Just as I put shoes on, my cell phone rings. It's Sadie. Calling at this time? I'd imagine she just woke up.
"Hallo....." I say.
"Hey Dan! What are you up to right now?'' Sadie asks.
"I was just about to head out to the store," I reply
"Mind waiting for me? I want to talk to you in person."
"Oh. I don't mind. As long as you don't take all day," I say jokingly.
"Haha! Okay, whatever. I'll be there in about 15 minutes," Sadie responds playfully.
"See you then!"
"Bye!" we say in unison.
Well now that's something to look forward to. I feel a bit disappointed, but IT'S SADIE! I have not seen her in about one month. There's a lot to discuss, too. I wonder what she has to say.
For the next 15 minutes, I make a quick sketches of the backdrops for my next animation. I hear a knock at my apartment door, and I get up to check the peephole. Outside, Sadie is doing an awkward yet impressive dance. I can see she brought her purse along. I take a deep breath and open the door.
"Hey!" Sadie exclaims with joy. She jumps at me and hugs me tightly. So tightly I can barely breath. "I missed you so.............. much! It's been forever!"
"Uhm," I chuckle. "I think you're overreacting."
"So what?" I hear her laugh.
"I think we should head out," I say. "I wasted enough of my day already."
"Okay!" Sadie responds.
. . .
"Whoa! This is what you eat?"
"Yeah. Why?" I ask Sadie.
"Well, I would have expected a healthier diet," Sadie tells me.
"Huh? What's unhealthy?" I ask in reply.
"Forgive me. What I meant was cheaper food is usually more processed than more expensive food."
"Oh. Thanks for that," I say gratefully. "I'll look into getting food somewhere else."
"You're not mad? Upset? About what I said?" she asks.
"Of course not! I know you didn't mean to offend me."
"Oh, good! I didn't want to sound mean."
After I grab a few more things, I head to the cash register. Sadie helps me unload my cart.
"Fifteen dollars and seventy eight cents," the cashier says.
I quickly rummage through my purse, grab a twenty dollar bill, and hand it to the cashier. As soon as I receive my receipt, Sadie helps bag my items and carries one bag. I grab to other and we start heading back to my apartment.
"You know," Sadie says. "I never did get to talk to you about what I'm here for."
"And that is?" I ask.
"Well. I wanted to ask you if you would like to come to the party my cousin is throwing for his daughter."
"How old is she, first off?"
"She'll be turning 10." Sadie replies. "Finally a double digit age!"
"Now that I think about it, I'm actually a bit busy today. I've gotten so behind on work lately," I say in a somewhat disappointed tone.
"Oh, silly me! How did I forget to tell you the date?" Sadie exclaims. It will be in about a week."
"I have another question. Is anyone invited or is it limited to a certain group?"
"I already asked my cousin about that, silly. Why else would I be asking?" she says in a bubbly tone.
"Oh."
"So? Yes? No? Maybe so?" Sadie throws at me.
"Really?" I say playfully annoyed. "You know how that phrase makes me feel!" I slightly elbow her in the belly. And of course, she just laughs it off.
"Your reply?" Sadie asks.
"I don't know. Probably not."
"AW! Why not?"
"Well. You know me," I tell her.
"I know this sounds crazy, but what do I know?"
"You know that I'm not a party person, Sadie."
"It's alright, Danielle!" she replies. "I know you like to dance. Like me."
"Not in front of a crowd of people I barely know!" I tell her.
"You'll know at least two people there!"
"In that case, who would I know that's going?" I ask.
"I asked Justin and he said yes!" she shoots a me with a smile.
"Real mature, Sadie! If you haven't noticed, we're only good friends that have known each other for a while now."
"Chuck will be there, too!" Sadie says almost immediately after I finish my sentence.
"What business do I have with your man?"
"Friendship. It's the least you can do. That's better than being awkward and never talking to him."
"Sadie, please! I don't want to go." I finally say. "I wouldn't do anything but sit around and eat! I've been there before and it's a SUPER awkward situation."
"I respect that. Guess I'll stop annoying you."
"Annoying? That was actually a pretty fun conversation. Especially since we haven't talked like this in while." I say softly. "I miss the conversations we used to have."
"Ha ha! Same here." Sadie replies.
After a few minutes, we arrive back at my place. Sadie volunteers to help put my groceries away while I start preparing for my next video. Before I know it, she is at my bedroom door.
"I guess I'll be going now." she says. "I'll text you later. Bye!"
"See ya!" I say. I can see her leaving with a smile on her face. This was a nice start to my day. I take out my phone from my pocket and check the time. It's 10:46.
