(Charlies POV)

The Chitauri and the alien attack on New York was something Charlie would never forget. When they had streamed out of the sky, her entire being had lit up with anticipation at the thought of being in action again. She ran to the window, barely able to contain herself.

Charlie felt her senses come alive, taking in the Chitauri that flew past. Recklessly she threw herself out the window, slamming into a speeder. Within a few seconds both the monsters were headed towards the city floor with broken necks. Charlie steered the speeder after them, heading for a group of Chitauri that were advancing on a group of people trapped in a restaurant.

The noises and screams of the people were reaching her ears, entering her mind, but the adrenaline rush sharpened and clarified the noises, rather than overwhelming her. The people were trapped between a storefront and rubble, while the Chitauri grew steadily closer. At the last minute she lept off the speeder, tumbling to the ground while the craft slammed into the aliens.

Grabbing one of the calmer men in the group of screaming people, Charlie shouted directions at him. "Go back inside! Whatever you do, stay inside and hide! Find a basement or go to the back of the store. Old folks and children first!" Out of the corner of her eye she saw two more Chitauri rise out of the wreckage and begin to crawl her way. Charlie pushed the man towards the shop front. "Go! Get everyone safe!"

Charlie looked at the aliens, looked at the ring on her hand. She pulled it off, waited. The aliens were large, ugly, and fast, barreling towards her now, growling. She waited. The first one ran up a dented car like a ramp and as it flew through the air with weapon raised to crush her, Charlie tossed her ring in the air, a gleam in her eyes.

It was one of her favorite parts of fighting, unleashing the weapon that had become an extension of her arm. The ring expanded into an ironwood shaft with a ornate, wicked blade at the end, a deadly polearm in the naginata style. The chitauri didn't stand a chance. She watched its eyes widened in surprise as she grabbed her polearm out of the air and thrust it straight, the alien unable to stop its fall directly on the tip of her blade. Dumping the creature to the side, Charlie ducked when the second chutauri swung at her, then slashed at his legs. He crumbled to his knees, then toppled as she swept off his head with the back swing.

And so it went, Charlie fighting her way through the streets of Manhattan, leaving a wake of dead Chituari behind her. She would stop to usher civilians to safety, catching glimpses of Nick Fury's Avengers in the battle. Her telekinesis was raging in the heat of the battle. A nearly unstoppable force, she was crushing the Chituari with debris and rubble before they even reached her, lifting boulders with her mind or throwing the creatures into the sides of the surrounding buildings.

She was at the base of the Stark Tower again when she heard a mighty crash from above. A piece of the lettering hit the building nearby, showering the air with rubble Looking up, she saw two green and red figures fighting on the balcony. Not including the obvious appearance, it wasn't hard to tell from the roars that it was Thor and Loki going at each other. The thought of the two brothers potentially trying to kill each other brought fear into her heart, for the first time during the invasion.

Problem. I'm down here, they're up there, she thought. It would take too long to go through the building itself, and she doubted that the sides had enough handholds for a quick climb. Another blast and she saw a SHIELD jet struck by a blue shot from what she assumed was Loki's staff. Frustrated now, Charlie began to cuss up a storm, not paying attention to the Chitauri speeder that was zooming towards her.

She saw it a split second before they fired, and deflected the shot back towards the pilot. It didn't stop the craft, however, and the ship crashed into her, knocking Charlie up and over the nose of the craft. Bleeding, she rose from the ground in pain, stumbling towards the ship. If it was still working, she could use it to get to the top of the building where the demigods were. A swift kick started it up again, so she jumped on and aimed for the fight.

Arriving at the top, she found she was too late. Thor pulled a bloodied weapon from his side, breathing hard. She ran to him, though her exhaustion matched his.

"Are you alright?"

He seemed surprised to see her there. "Lady Dark! What are you doing here?"

Thor was by far one of the largest people Charlie had ever seen, and for a moment she just appreciated the sweaty golden mountain before her. He was so different from his brother, more congenial and good natured, but less tactful and more inclined towards force. Much disappointment and frustration towards Loki was in his surface thoughts. Thor loved Loki, that Charlie was absolutely sure of.

"Same as you, I had hoped to persuade Loki to give up his madness." She gave a wry smile. "Didn't work for you either I see."

Thor sighed. "I will not give up hope. What we have now to do is protect the people of Earth. Shall I have your company in this battle, brave maiden?"

Charlie was quickly fond of Thor by this time. "I'd prefer to aid the people of Earth on my own, but I'll be around if you find the Chituari hard to handle. Perhaps I shall see you when this is over."

He was looking at her more closely now. "Have we fought together before?"

His question took her by surprise. "No, we've only met the other day. Why do you ask?"

"You manner is familiar. Do you reside on Asgard?"

Her heart was in her throat. Both the brothers thought she was from Asgard. She was so close to finding her true identity; but it events in which she was finding out the information had been so unexpected. Charlie didn't know how to process this. She must have looked awful, because Thor took her arm and asked "Have I offended you? Dear lady forgive me. Are you well?"

"Loki... He - he said the same. That I am - I am of Asgard?..." Her words were broken, she couldn't breathe. Control yourself! Thor steadied her.

"Think no more of this. Right now, aid us in the defense of Earth. When this is over, I shall come for you and the mystery of your roots will be revealed."

Charlie nodded, temporarily soothed. His comment "mystery of your roots" was rather amusing. He didn't seem put off by her appearance, nor did he seem to remember her behavior before on the SHIELD airship. He wanted to help her, and that was so important. But Chitauri were still attacking Mahattan, so they bid each other farewell and headed in different directions, Thor towards the other Avengers and Charlie to fight on her own.
