when yoon-ae was five, her parents were invited on a business trip to america. her mother took her to yoon-ae's grandparents in busan to take care of her. her parents never came back from that trip. yoon-ae basically grew up in that small cottage with her grandmother and grandfather until she became old enough to go to college and live on her own.
a few days after yoon-ae turned nineteen, she applied to bomnal university, located in seoul, and was accepted weeks later. her grandparents were extremely proud of her and even agreed to pay for her tuition and other college fees.
since yoon-ae didn't want to leave her grandmother and grandfather alone, she called over her aunt, aunt hosook, to take care of them. after that, yoon-ae packed a backpack of necessities and a bag full of clothes. she then bid farewell to her relatives. she took a train to seoul where she would live a whole new life.

backstory;;
eunju lived in a small apartment located in gwangju with her father and two aunts. her mother was hospitalized because she had a horrible mental illness. eunju visited her mother every month. eunju lived like this until she turned eighteen years old.
one day, eunju's father came in with a sealed envelope in his hand. his face had a large and bright smile, which eunju hadn't seen in a while since her mother first went to the hospital. her father hugged eunju tight and whispered in her ear, "i'm proud of you, eunju." he handed the envelope to eunju to open. she opened it and her face lit up with lots of happiness. inside the envelope was a scholarship letter to a seoul-located college, bomnal university. her aunts stormed into the room, embracing their niece in their arms after hearing the wonderful news.
about half a year later of preparing to go live in seoul, eunju packed her items that she thought were necessary and said her little goodbyes to her family at the apartment. she then took a taxi that was heading to nabi clinic, the hospital where eunju's mother was. eunju said a goodbye to her ill mother but promised her that she would visit as much as she can.
eunju hopped back into the seat of the taxi and told the driver to continue driving to seoul.
