"So you want to talk about it?" Rowan asked me in the car on our way to the beach house. I shook my head, fearing that if I talk about it, I would burst into random tears.
"Okay, that's cool. You hungry? McDonalds is just off the next exit."
"No." I answered facing away from her and looking out into the night. My hunger was gone and pain shot through my head like an exploding firework. God I hate that aspirin barely works unless you down the whole bottle. "You know what, pull to that rest stop I need aspirin away."
She pulled over and I didn't even let her park completely before I was out of the car and walking towards the building. I opened the door and met cooled air and it only heightened my headache. I got to the little gift shop and pulled out some Tylenol and Advil and placed it on the counter and pulled out a twenty. The man behind the counter gave me a flirtatious smile, even though I probably look like crap and that I so wasn't in the mood today.
I smiled sheepishly back and took my change from him, thoughts of Markus steamed in my head, making my stomach turn
"Ready?" She asked moving forward in the line. I stuffed my hands in my pockets, and she threw her hood over her head shading to people staring as they walked by us. Something we're familiar with sadly, werewolves are blessed with beauty. Even the ugliest to us, it the most beautiful to them. Humans didn't know a ugly duck from a swan I swear.
"Yeah, can we hurry, people are staring and then guys will start coming over."
"I can't make the line move anymore than it is already," She motion to the line in front of us.
"Why don't we just go through the drive-thru?" I asked confused. She froze and furrowed her brows.
"That makes sense." She said.
"I know it does," I mumbled grabbing her arm. "Lets go, and look down so no one sees us."
After scurrying away like fugitives, we ran to her Jeep and pulled up to the drive-thru in awkward silence. She pulled up to the teller machine and we waited for the guy to ask us our orders. We paid and got our food and I munched on my ketchup covered French fries and sipped on my smoothie. Rowan successfully managed to drive, eat a burger and fries, and eat a M&M McFlurry.
"Your good at that," I acknowledged.
"Takes skills," She muffled through fries. "Skills you don't have."
"Whatever," I snorted. "I have skills you don't have."
"Like what?"
"Driving with my knees, while eating and playing chess." She laughed driving with her knees. She held the McFlurry in both her hands and looked the out my window. " And not even looking at the road."
"So you're trying to kill us?" I asked eating some of her McFlurry.
"No, I'm trying to show you how much cooler I am than you."
"Oh and this is how you show me?" I laughed. "Trying to make my head detach from my body from a car accident?"
"When you say it like that," She put down the McFlurry in the cup holder. "Yeah."
"Crazy lunatic."
"Your crazy lunatic."
"Sometimes I wonder how we became friends?"
"It such a wonderful thing don't you think? It was third grade. You on the playground and Verna Marsh was bothering you on the swings and she pushed you right off and you held a grudge. I came over and saved you."
"You took my swing!" I laughed.
"But wait," I held up her hand in defense. "You pouted and Markus was coming over to see if you were okay, and then Mia pushed me off the swings. I skinned my knee real badly and..."
